Design and Fabrication of Mini Air Compressor

The document describes the design and fabrication of a mini air compressor. It contains 3 main sections: (1) an introduction to air compressors and their classification, (2) the basic components of the mini air compressor including a motor, crank, slider, cylinder and frame, and (3) the working principle of how the slider crank mechanism converts the rotational motion of the motor into reciprocating motion to compress air. The mini air compressor provides air at high pressure with less vibration and power consumption compared to existing models.

DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF MINI AIR

COMPRESSOR
ABSTRACT
A compressor is used to get high pressure air for many
industrial and commercial purpose.
The air compressor with the slider crank is a
reciprocating type compressor, which delivers air at high
pressure with less vibration and less power consumption
than the existing ones.
Introduction

AIR COMPRESSOR
An air compressor is a device that moves fluids (liquids or
gases), or sometimes slurries, by mechanical action. Air
compressors can be classified into three major groups
according to the method they use to move the fluid:
direct lift, displacement, and gravity air compressors.
Literature review
Air compressors operate by some mechanism (typically
reciprocating or rotary), and consume energy to perform
mechanical work by moving the fluid. Air compressors
operate via many energy sources, including manual
operation, electricity, an engine of some type, or tri cylinder
power.

WORKINGPRINCIPLE

In this mechanism link corresponding to the connecting rod is

fixed. The crank revolves about the fixed center C. A slider

attached to the crank pin slides along the lever. This makes the

slotted lever oscillate about the pivoted point A short link

transmits the motion from to the arm which reciprocates with the

tool along the line of stroke. This compresses the air.

ADVANTAGES

 1) Simplicity of design
 2) Easier installation
 3) Low maintenance
 4) More pressure
 5) Less power consumption
Disadvantages

1. Less pressure can be produced
