INNOVATION

WHAT IS INNOVATION?
COOLING BRICKS
BRIEF HISTORY
ORIENTED STRUCTURAL STRAW BOARD
(OSSD)
*STRAW FIBERS
*FORMALDEHYDE-
FREE ADHESIVE
USES!!
• OSSB can replace oriented strand
board and particle board in structural
and non-structural applications such as
interior and exterior wall for house
construction, furniture and interior
decoration.
• OSSB panels are formaldehyde-free,
they are also used for applications
where air quality is a concern, such as
kindergartens, hospitals, bedrooms,
and hotels.
PROPERTIES!!
• HIGH STRUCTURAL STRENGTH, LOAD BEARING
AND STABILITY
• SUPERIOR WORKABILITY AND EXCELLENT NAIL
HOLDING PROPERTIES
• WATER PERMEABILITY
• HIGHLY EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT
• doe not emit VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND
• TOXIC TO TERMITES, BEETLES, MOLDS AND
FUNGI
TYPES!!
• OSSB 1
• OSSB 3
• OSSB DECO
• OSSB PANELS

SOLAR ROADWAYS
INTRODUCTION
• The idea is to replace all current
petroleum based asphalt roads,
parking lots, and driveways with
Solar Road Panels that collect
energy to be used by our homes and
businesses.
• The ultimate goal is to store excess
energy in or along-side the Solar
Roadways.
Solar Road Construction
• PHOTOVOLTAIC CELL are used to
convert solar energy directly into
electricity using semiconductors.
• Road consists of 3 layers:
– I. Road Surface Layer
– II. Electronics Layer
– III. Base Layer
º Road Surface Layer
-Translucent and high-
strength.
-Designed for reduced
skidding chances . Weatherproof.
-Embedded with LEDs and a
heating element
-Tested for traction, load
carrying capacity & impact resistance
and exceeded all requirements
º Middle layer
-Contains photovoltaic cells
-It houses the heating element
and microprocessors for controlling
them.
-It also houses the
microprocessors for controlling lighting
LEDs.
º Base Plate layer (Bottom layer)
-Stores the converted
electrical energy. Distributes electrical
energy.
-Made weatherproof.
HOW IT WORKS??
• Sunlight falls on solar panels which
generates electricity.
• This is as same time is transferred to
nearby houses, businesses and power
houses.
• LEDs controlled by microprocessors
display information on the surface of road.
• Anti icing layer clears the road.
• Also senses changes in weight.
ADVANTAGE DISADVANTAGE
• RENEWABILITY
• LIFE SPAN
• INITIAL COST
• INTELLEGENT HIGHWAY • HIGH INITIAL COST
SYSTEM • ROAD SURFACES DEPOSITS
• ROAD ILLUMINATION REDUCES ITS EFFICIENCY (SALT,
• MILITARY AND RESCUE RUBBER AND DIRT)
SYSTEM • NEEDS A TOWN PLANNING
• SMART ALWAYS CONNECTED • SEASONAL EFFICIENCY
WITH ROADS AND VEHICLES
• DRIVER ASSISTANCE
• TRAFFIC ASSISTANCE
• SMART GRID
• OIL INDEPENDENCE
FEATURES OF SOLAR ROADWYAS
• (a) Accident can be
avoided
• (b) Illuminated roads
• (c) Electric Vehicles
• (d) Snow/ ICE
Management
• (e) Improved power
lines
• (f) Intelligent Highways
• (g) PARKING LOT
INTEGRATION
• Even though the initial cost is
high, as it is a system that
pays for itself it is a better
choice.
• For under developed and
developing countries, it might
seem impractical now. But it
can be adopted in stages, in
future.
• With technological up-
gradation in this field, jobs,
clean energy and a safer
transportation system can be
made.
