INTRODUCTION
BLOOD AND THE NEED TO SAFEGAURD BLOOD IN BANKS

Blood is a specialized bodily fluid that delivers necessary substances–

namely nutrients, oxygen and medicines the body's cells – and transports
waste products namely carbon dioxide and metabolic wastes away from the
same cells . Thus , blood is the most important fluid of the body, extremely
essential for the proper functioning of all body organs. Since blood as a
bodily component , has been gifted to us by nature, we hardly realize its
significance, until and unless there arises a situation of acute crisis.

We all assume that if and when we need blood, it will be there. Unfortunately,
this is just NOT true. There is a tremendous need for blood in our country but
the supply is highly inadequate. Along with the reluctance and aversion of
people towards blood donation, ineffective management of the available
blood is another major reason of acute shortages. One effective way to
combat these shortages is to ensure efficient safeguard of blood and its
various components in blood banks and to develop information systems that
manage blood transactions in ways that lead to minimum wastage

Blood transactions management:

Once the data entry operator/admin. Has accessed the system, all the following
blood related transactions are handled by him. During all such transactions there is
flow of data between various entities and the system. Two of such flows are the
basic flows i.e.
1.) When a donor interacts with the system.
2.) When a recipient interacts with the system.
Both of these flows can be described as:
 When a donor interacts with the system:

 Actors: Data entry operator, administrator, donor, bill process, stock list.
