Description
- IP address is a number identifying of a computer or another
device on the Internet.
Example: 192.168.1.1
Where:
192 – First octet
168 – Second Octet
1 – Third Octet
1 – Fourth Octet
Classes
Class A: 1.0.0.0 – 127.255.255.255
Class B: 128.0.0.0 – 191.255.255.255
Class C: 192.0.0.0 – 223.255.255.255
Class D: 224.0.0.0 – 239.255.255.255
Class E: 240.0.0.0 – 255.255.255.255
Configure IP address or Network
Configuration (All Computers)
1. Open network sharing centre -> Local Area Connection -> Properties
2. Or (windows + R) then type ncpa.cpl -> right click on the Local Area
Connection -> Properties
3. Select IPv4 or Internet Protocol version 4 -> Properties
4. Set the IP address as static
5. Click OK
6. Go to advanced sharing settings and turn on all the needed requirements
(turning on or off the password depends on you, however when using
server it is recommended to turn on the password restriction)
Note: If you use router for connecting your LAN use a default gateway, but if you use switch no need to
add default gateway
Checking IP address or Network
Configuration
1. Go to cmd (windows + PAUSEBREAK)
2. Type ipconfig -> check if the IP address
you set is the same on what the
ipconfig shows
Testing Connectivity
1. After ipconfig -> type PING<space>IP address of the
other PC
2. A “Reply from 192.168.#.#x:bytes=32 time<1ms
TTL=128” should be the reply. If request time out or
host unreachable, check your cable connection and go
back to the previous settings.
3. Go to File Explorer
