Introduction
 A Bio-Battery is an energy storing device that is powered by
organic compounds, usually being glucose, such as the glucose
in human blood.

 When enzymes in human bodies break down glucose, several

electrons and protons are released.
What is a Bio-Battery

A Bio-Battery is
known as a device in
which the substrate
material, organic or
inorganic, is
converted to electrical
energy.
Mechanism of Bio-Battery
Working of Bio-Battery
Need for Bio-Battery
 In the field of electricity, a battery is a device that converts
chemical energy to electrical energy.
 Different types of batteries are used in various electronic and
electrical devices.
 However, these batteries contain certain chemicals such as
compounds of lead and mercury, which are highly toxic in
nature.
 Therefore, Bio-Batteries have a great potential to be used as
suitable alternatives or even replacements for chemical
batteries in the future.
Types of Bio-Battery
 Passive System Type

A system in which reactive substance are absorbed into the

electrodes through the process of natural diffusion.

 Active System Type

In this type the reactive substance are introduce by force by

techniques as string, convection.
Advantages
 Quick recharging capabilities

 Eco friendly

 Raw material available easily and plenty

 Extremely safe

 Portable and light weight compared to fuel cell

Disadvantages
 Compared to conventional batteries, such as lithium
batteries, bio-batteries are less likely to retain most of
their energy.

 This causes a problem when it comes to long term

usage and storage of energy for these batteries.
Applications
Disaster relief
Portable charging
in cell phones
Medical implants
like pace makers,
insulin pumps
Replacing
batteries in toys
and greeting cards
Future scope
 Bio-Batteries have a very bright future ahead of them as
test production and research have been increasing over
recent years.

 They serve as a new form of energy that is proving to be

environmentally friendly, as well as successful, in
producing and reserving energy.
We can imagine
using a bottle of
coke to recharge
batteries in the
future although
we would still
prefer solar
powered
chargers as you
can’t really find
a bottle of coke
everywhere, but
the sun is there
always.
Conclusion
 The Bio-Batteries are high performing, stable.
 Even so, Bio-battery the small, flexible, long lasting
and environmentally friendly battery technologies
discussed here.
 This causes a problem when it comes to long term
usage and storage of energy for these batteries.
However, researches are continuing to develop the
battery in order to make it a more practical
replacement for current batteries and sources of
energy.
