Abstract

• The Deaf and Dumb are facing many challenges, and are craving for
self-dependence
• Deaf and Dumb the sign language to communicate with the normal
person, and the sign language will be converted into text and the
other person’s text message will be converted into sign language.
• The technology we have used is computer vision and artificial
intelligence.
Existing Model

• The existing system is a communication which uses flex sensor and

recognizes the gestures . Wearing gloves is mandatory
• The drawback of this method is that it is an one way communication
• The deaf and dumb person cannot converse with an normal person
without another person to help him out
Proposed Model

• The proposed model will help a normal person converse with a

dumb and deaf person
• it enables this by receiving input from the deaf and dumb as a sign
language input and the output to the person in the counter as text
• His reply to the deaf and dumb person in text can be converted back
to sign language and a text will be displayed to them

Software used

• Machine learning , deep learning and computer vision is the fulcrum

of our project
• We will be training the system with 26 alphabets symbol in the sign
language
• The same database will be used both way communications
• The hardware used is raspberry pi and the programming language is
python2.0.7 and library is opencv3

Advantages

• A deaf and dumb person can be recruited into a job by this method
• The deaf and dumb person can make presentations and express his
ideas in sign language in conferences
• Writing on piece of paper will take time but sign language is quick
Future Scope
• Deep learning can not be implemented in raspberry pi
• Real images can be captured easily
• The new method should involve both hands
