I AM AN EDUCATOR BUT I AM ALSO A LEARNER,

I LOVE LEARNING AND BEING IN A LEARNING

ENVIRONMENT.

I AM A 2018 GRADUATE OF BLACK HILLS STATE

UNIVERSITY, I HOLD A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN
EDUCATION IN SPANISH K-12. THROUGHOUT MY
TIME IN COLLEGE AND IN PREPARATION FOR MY
CHOSEN CAREER, I HAVE WORKED AS A
SUBSTITUTE TEACHER AND AS A SPANISH
INTERPRETER IN THE LEGAL SETTING AS WELL AS IN
THE CLASSROOM ASSISTING TEACHERS, PARENTS
AND STUDENTS.

AS A TEACHER I WANT TO:

1. ESTABLISH MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS WITH

STUDENTS TO CREATE A SAFE LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH STUDENTS FEEL VALUED.
2. CREATE EVERY OPPORTUNITY POSSIBLE FOR
STUDENTS TO ENGAGE WITH AND INTERACT IN
THE TARGET LANGUAGE AND CULTURE ON A
DAILY BASIS.
TOP 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ME AS A LEARNER:
1) My favorite method of learning is a combination of visual aids and hands-on-activities (visual/ kinesthetic). I like to do hands-on-activities because it helps me
learn to do the work on my own, encourages me to be creative and captivates my attention. But I also, like getting some sort of visual aid to take home with me
and study.
2) I like to review my work. When I am done with a problem I always check my answers to be completely sure I didn’t make a mistake.

3) When studying for exams i like to create acronyms or sentences to help me remember important facts. For instance, to learn the order of operations, (parenthesis,
exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction) I use the sentence: “please excuse my dear aunt sally.”
4) I use music/melodies help me memorize important information. My sixth grade science teacher incorporated music with the use of her keyboard into several class
lessons. Once, when learning about the color spectrum and wavelength, she changed the lyrics of a nursery rhyme, and added her own lyrics which will forever
be engraved in my head. “Purple, indigo, blue, and green, yellow, and orange and red. You can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing it in your head. Listen to
your eyes, listen to your eyes, and sing everything you see, you can sing a rainbow sing a rainbow, sing it in your head.”
5) I have had teachers who allow students to use a cheat sheet on exams. Creating such is time consuming (for me that was an average of 3 hours) but it helps
solidify material. Because of the long hours I invested creating a cheat sheet, I rarely needed to refer to the it during the exam.
6) I like to take neat notes, sometimes in class i don’t have time to write everything down and be neat at the same time. On my free time, I like to take my notes and
rewrite them or type them to make them really neat.
7) I have to keep things organized to access information easily and avoid losing items. I like using tab dividers, and sheet protectors, and having different folders
for each of my classes.
8) Usually, when i am reading something and i run into a word i don’t know i will write it down and look up its meaning, other times i reread the sentence and read
ahead to try to better understand the word.
9) I enjoy working with a partner/group because it gives me the opportunity to compare and contrast my point of view and theirs. Although, we are assigned the
same work, no mind is alike because each person learns a different lesson from the material presented.
10) I like detailed instructions and examples, i often refer back to the instructions when working on any assignments to make sure my work meets the guidelines.
