What is Safety?
• NOUN: The condition of being safe;
freedom from danger, risk, or injury.
How Do I Stay Safe?
• The best way to stay safe is to follow
safety rules and to pay attention to what is
around you.
Where Do I Need to be Safe?
• You need safety EVERYWHERE!! In the
next few minutes, you will learn ways to be
safer in different places.
Being Safe Near Water
• Drowning is the 2nd highest cause of death among kids
under 14.
• Drowning can occur in less than 2 minutes!!!
• Oceans have riptides that can pull even a strong
swimmer out to sea very quickly.
• Ponds and lakes may hide broken glass or other sharp
things under the surface.
How to Be Safer Near Water
• Learn to swim!! Ask your parents for lessons.
• Check how deep the water is BEFORE you jump in.
• Check the water temperature BEFORE you jump in.
• Always have an adult watch you in the water.
• Always walk around water – never run.
• Never eat or drink while swimming.
More How to Be Safer Around
Water…
• If you are on a boat, wear a lifejacket – ALWAYS!!
• Never swim alone.
• Don’t swim too far from shore.
• Never pretend to drown.
• If you aren’t a strong swimmer, wear a life jacket.
Being Safe Outside
• Always wear sunscreen to protect your skin.
• Never get on a bike without a helmet to protect your
brain!!
• Drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
• If you will be moving a lot, wear sturdy walking shoes.
• Always carry a first aid kit with you.
Being Safe at Home
• Never tell anyone that you are home alone.
• Don’t answer the door to anyone that you don’t
know.
• Don’t cook or play with the stove or with
matches.
• Don’t play with cleaning supplies or chemicals.
These
are just a few of the ways that you can stay
safe and happy and still have fun being a
kid!!! Check back often for new safety

stay safe in different places.
