 First day in china’s lunar calendar

 City parks and temple fairs are the places to go for
 The main Chinese New Year activities :
 Putting up red colour decorations
 Eating reunion dinner with family on New Year's Eve
 Firecrackers and fireworks
 Giving red envelopes
 September or October, on month 8 day 15 of the Chinese lunar
calendar
 Second most important festival in China and Chinese
after Chinese New Year
 Moon is believed to be the biggest and fullest of the year
 Chinese people believe that a full moon is a symbol of reunion,
harmony, and happiness
 Mooncake is the main most characteristic food in this festival

MID-AUTUM FESTIVAL (MOON CAKE FESTIVAL)


 Originated from the Han Dynasty and thrived in the Tang and
Song dynasties
 In the northern part of China, people usually eat dumplings,
wonton and mutton to celebrate the day
 The southern part, tang yuan and noodles are the festival food
 Tang yuan is a kind of glutinous rice ball with different fillings or no
filling
 People think after eating tang yuan, they will older 1 year

WINTER SOLSTICE FESTIVAL


 Also called as Duanwu 端午节 [duān wǔ jié]
 Falls at 5th day of 5th lunar month
 Tradition and customs :
 Zongzi, a pyramid-shaped glutinous rice dumpling wrapped in reed
leaves, is the special food eaten on the day
 Jiandu is a kind of fried glutinous ball made of wheat or sticky rice
flour, with sesame on the surface
 Dragon boat racing Dragon boats are thus named because the fore
and stern of the boat is in a shape of traditional Chinese dragon.
 A team of people works the oars in a bid to reach the destination
before other teams.
