History
•In 1992, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
launched Energy Star to promote energy-efficiency
in computers.
•The term Green Computing coined shortly after
energy star began.
•The first success of green computing was the
Sleep mode function
•Wipro became the first Indian company to launch
environment-friendly range of desktops and laptops,
compliant with RoHS
 It is the study of design, manufacturing, using
and disposing of computer devices in such a
way that reduce environment impact.

 It is also known as “ GREEEN IT “.

 In simple terms it is responsible use of

computer and their resources.
– Computer Energy is Often Wasteful
• Leaving the computer on when not in use (CPU and
fan consume power, screen savers consume power)

– Insufficient Power and Cooling Capacities

• Data centers have insufficient cooling capacities.

– Pollution
• Manufacturing techniques
• Packaging
• Disposal of computers and components

– Toxicity
• There are toxic chemicals used in the manufacturing of
computers and components which can enter the food
chain and water!
 Green Use :Minimizing electricity consumption
 Green Design :Designing energy-efficient
computers and other Devices.
 Green Disposal: Re-making of existing Computer
or recycling, unwanted electronic equipment.
 Green Manufacturing: Minimizing waste during the
manufacturing of computers and other
subsystems to reduce environmental impact of
these activates.
 Virtualization

 Power Management

 Algorithm Efficiency

 Material Recycling
 The process of running two or more logical
computer systems on one set of hardware
• Virtualization helps a company /
enterprise lower power and cooling
consumption, by reducing the
number of machines and
servers it needs.
• Virtualization platforms can run
across hundreds of
interconnected physical computers
and storage devices, to create an
entire virtual infrastructure.
• Turn off computers and
printers when not in use.

• Make sure computer is set

to sleep
when not in use.

• Laptops should be preferred

over desktops.
• CRT Monitor (17”) uses 80 watts.
• LCD Monitor (17”) uses 35 watts.
• LED Monitor (17”) uses 25 watts.
 The efficiency of algorithms has an impact on
the amount of computer resources required
for any given computing function.
 Carbon Dioxide Released per search:
 Google Search ≈ 0.20gm
 Microsoft Live Search ≈ 0.32gm
 Yahoo Search ≈ 0.26gm
 AOL Search ≈ 0.37gm.
Blackle…????
 Blackle is a website powered by Google Custom
Search and created by Tony heap of Heap Media.

 7 Mega watts of Electrical energy have been

saved by Blackle as of February 2019.

 If computer screen is White it consumes 74

watts and if it black it consumes 59 watts.
 Disposal of the computing devices constitute
20-50 million tons per year (about 5% of the
total waste of the planet)

 Reuse of tin, silicon, iron, aluminium, and a

variety of plastics
 Intel – Super micro.

 Microsoft- data centers sunk in water.

 Google –Google stadia.

 Switch to LED Screens.
 Switch to Blackle Google custom search.
 Donation or Proper disposal of E-Waste.
 Use SSD.
 Print when really needed.
 Shut Down or Put on Sleep your PC when not in
use.

By follow above we all can contribute to Green

Computing.
 Automation Testing of New Tours
 About Selenium
• Functional automation tool for Web Applications.
• Open Source tool which supports languages like
HTML,JAVA,PHP,Perl etc.
• Selenium tests can be executed on multiple
browser
platforms.
• It can be integrated with tools such
as TestNG for managing test cases and generating
reports
