Introduction :

The word Ghana means "Warrior King” and derives from the
Ghana Empire.

Population is 2,118,945 (July 2018 EST.)and growth rate is


2.16% (2018

The climate of Ghana is tropical, warm, humid climate

The Ghana Empire (c. 700 until c. 1240), properly known
as Wagadou.

Name change
Previously Ghana was known as the Gold Coast during the pre-
independence era. The name Ghana was adopted at the time of
independence from Britain in 1957.

directly elected in single-seat constituencies by simple majority vote to
serve 4-year terms)

Electoral process:
• All citizens age 18 and over are eligible to vote
•The president is elected for a four-year term by the people.
•Presidential and parliamentary elections are held alongside each other,
generally on 7 December.
•The presidential election is won by having more than 50% of valid votes
cast, whilst the parliamentary elections is won by simple majority

 Ghana is known for Lake Volta (largest artificial lake in the
world). It is 320 miles and also can be seen from space.

Gold and cocoa account for 2/3 of exports.


Agriculture
• 238,000 km2- 18% is arable land
Agriculture accounts for about 35% of GDP and employs
about 55% of the work force – mainly small landholders

• About 50% of the population in Ghana lack adequate


water supplies.

•70% of all illnesses in Ghana are related to waterborne


contaminants

• Harvard University and MIT provide lending support to


establish an agribusiness training center at the Afram
Plains on the shoreline of the Lake Volta in Ghana.
Energy and transportation
Most of Ghana’s chief export, cacao, is shipped from Tema,
the busiest port in Ghana

Ghana’s main pride is their football team they nickname is


the black stars ,they are 27th in Fifa rankings. They have
the African cup nations four times!

Military forces:
 The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is the unified armed
force of Ghana, consisting of the Army (GA), Navy (GN)
and Ghana Air Force. The GAF are supervised by the
Ghanaian Ministry of Defence.
