First Reading
A reading from the book of Ruth

In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the
land, and a certain man of Bethlehem in Judah went to live in
the country of Moab, he and his wife and two sons. But
Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with
her two sons. These took Moabite wives; the name of the one
was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. When they had
lived there about ten years, both Mahlon and Chilion also died,
so that the woman was left without her two sons and her
husband.
‘Then she started to return with her daughters-in-law from the
country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that
the Lord had considered his people and given them food. Then
they wept aloud again. Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth
clung to her.
So she said, “See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people
and gods; return after sister-in-law.” But Ruth said, “Do not press
me leave you or turn from following you! Where go, I will go;
lodge, lodge; shall be my people, God.
So Naomi returned together with Ruth the Moabite,
her daughter-in-law, who came back with her from the
country of Moab. They came to Bethlehem at the
beginning of the barley harvest.

The word of the Lord

All: Thanks be to God

Responsorial Psalm

The response to the psalm is:

Praise the Lord, my soul!

He is happy who is helped by Jacob’s God,

whose hope is in the Lord his God,
who alone made heaven and earth,
the seas and all they contain.

Response: Praise the Lord, my soul!

It is he who keeps faith for ever,
who is just to those who are oppressed.
It is he who gives bread to the hungry,
the Lord, who sets prisoners free.

Response: Praise the Lord, my soul!

It is the Lord who gives sight to the blind,
who raises up those who are bowed down,
the Lord, who protects the stranger
and upholds the widow and orphan.

Response: Praise the Lord, my soul!

It is the Lord who loves the just

but thwarts the path of the wicked.

The Lord will reign for ever,

Zion’s God, from age to age.

Response: Praise the Lord, my soul!

Gospel
The Lord be with you
All: And with your spirit
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they
gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him,
“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a
second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two
commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Prayers of the Faithful (please stand)

Father: God is faithful, always loving and willing to listen to us. Let us now
bring our needs to God, confident in God’s fatherly love.

We pray for our Pope, Francis, may he continue to remind us how

we should always follow in the footsteps of Jesus and try to be
holy each day. Lord hear us.

Response: Lord hear our prayer

We pray for Archbishop Timothy Costello, Bishops, priests and all
in religious life. May they continue to grow in strength and
courage, being good models of how to love God and other
people as Jesus did. Lord hear us.

Response: Lord hear our prayer

We pray for those who are sick, especially those who are
relatives of our school community. May our prayers and love
help them to heal. Lord hear us.

Response: Lord hear our prayer

For all students and families at Star of the Sea, that we might
experience the blessings, love, and graces poured out by God
the Father. Lord hear us.

Response: Lord hear our prayer

We pray for all of us here today, may we develop patience and
understanding in order to grow in holiness and become more
selfless in all our thoughts and actions. Lord hear us.

Response: Lord hear our prayer

Father: Lord, you love us and we know that you give us what we ask
through Christ our Lord.
Father: At the Saviour’s command and formed by
divine teaching, we dare to say:

All: Our Father, who art

In heaven, hallowed

Be thy name,

Thy kingdom come

Thy will be done

All: On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us

And lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil.

Our Liturgy is ended, go in peace, always remembering to turn to
God for all our needs. We ask this prayer through Christ our
Lord.
All: Amen
Go in peace and friendship to spread God’s light to all people we
meet.
All: Thanks be to God

Your Grace is Enough
Great is your faithfulness oh God of Jacob
You wrestle with the sinner's wrestless heart
You lead us by still waters into mercy
When nothing can keep us apart
So remember your people
Remember your children
Remember your promise, oh God
For Your grace is enough
Yeah Your grace is enough
Yeah Your grace is enough for me
Great is your love and justice God of Jacob
You use the weak to lead the strong
You lead us in the song of heaven's victory
And all your people sing along
So remember your people
Remember your children
Remember your promise, oh God
For Your grace is enough
Yeah Your grace is enough
Yeah Your grace is enough for me x2
