Experimental Investigation on Mechanical

Properties of fiber reinforced polymer made by

Rapid-Prototyping
Abstract
Rapid prototyping techniques are used to quickly fabricate prototypes directly from CAD data using 3D printing
or additive manufacturing. Due to limited mechanical properties and functionalities of pure printed polymer
there is a need to develop composite with high performance. A method to produce fiber reinforced plastics(FRP)
have been developed earlier, which uses FDM processes by implementing fiber into the matrix material prior or
within the nozzle. It is found from literature reviews that a method to incorporate the fiber manually while the
part is being manufactured has not been analyzed extensively. Aim of this investigation is to evaluate
mechanical properties of that manually fiber reinforced polymer. A prototype of fiber reinforced part is
manufactured successfully using 3d printer. In next phase, tensile strength and young’s modulus will be
evaluated. Further Influence on mechanical properties of various parameters such as fiber pattern ,volume
fraction and thermal treatment will also be evaluated.
