Fast Facts
● Worlds most important pollinator as they have the highest population
out of all pollinators
● ⅓ bites of food=bees
● Bees also pollinate non-food products, like cotton and beeswax for
cosmetics
● Bees make honey
● Getting rid of the bees will get rid of the entire ecosystem as honey
bees pollinate flowers for cows
● Bees produce 19 billion dollars worth of agriculture, while all other
pollinators combined made 10 billion dollars
● At least 90 percent of our plants rely on cross pollination which is
what bees do
● Climate Change: causes flowers to bloom earlier or later
than usual leaving bees with fewer food sources at the
start of the season as flowers produce pollen
● Loss of Biodiversity: without bees, other plants and
trees necessary for survival will not be able to
germinate
● Deforestation/loss of habitat: Without flowers for the
bees to pollinate and get their food from, they will start
to die off
Mutualism
● Flowers benefit from bees bc they
spread their pollen to different
parts of the plant therefore
reproducing and creating seeds
● Bees benefits bc the pollen or
nectar is their food source
Pollination
● Pollination is the process of transfer of
pollen from the male part of the flower to
the female part of the flower, creating a
seed
● Without bees pollinating, flowers would
not be able to reproduce, at least ⅓ of our
food staples would no longer be available
