History Of MDMA

Originated by a pharmaceutical company in Germany in 1912

They wanted to prove that MDMA could help relieve pain in terminally ill
patients

Psychiatrists were using it even though it was not approved by the FDA

In 1985 the DEA placed a ban on it

It has remained a Schedule I substance since then


What is it made of
MDMA- methylene

Dioxy

methamphetamine .

Synthetic drug made in a lab which is safest pure, but most likely will
be cut with more dangerous substances
Tolerance
You can develop a tolerance toward MDMA

With regular use risks are greater for developing a tolerance


Dependence/Withdrawal
You can become dependent for MDMA

During withdrawal, levels of dopamine and serotonin drop as MDMA leaves the
bloodstream

Some symptoms are mood swings, loss of appetite, paranoia, etc.


Effects
Short Term: Dehydration, Paranoia, Anxiety, Insomnia

Long Term: Depression, Thoughts of Suicide

Taken as a pill

Consequences
0-15 Tablets – Class 4 felony with a possible prison sentence of between 1 to 3
years. Probation is possible.
15-200 Tablets – Class 1 felony with a mandatory minimum of 4 to 15 years in
prison. Probation is not available.
200-600 Tablets – Class 1 felony with a mandatory minimum of 8 to 40 years in
prison. Probation is not available.
Over 1500 Tablets – Class 1 felony with a mandatory minimum of 10 to 50 years
in prison. Probation is not available.
