What is Drug?
Drug is any chemical substance that when
introduced into the body will adversely affect
your psychological and physiological well
being.
What is Drug Abuse?
Drug abuse is the use of drug that
causes more harmful than helpful
effects in an individual’s physical,
mental, emotional or social
impairment.
What is Drug Dependence?
Drug Dependence - a state in
which a person can only
function in the continuous use
of drugs.
Drugs of Choice
• The first is methamphetamine
SHABU hydrochloride commonly known as
“SHABU”, which is the most common
drug of abuse.
- increased activity and wakefulness
- increased talkativeness
- decreased appetite
- rapid/irregular heartbeat
- hallucinations
- aggressive or violent behavior
- weight loss
MARIJUANA The second is cannabis sativa
known as MARIJUANA, the
source of which grows
naturally in the Philippines
- unmotivated at work and in school
- lack of saliva
- memory impairment

ECSTACY The third is methylenedioxy-
methamphetamine (MDMA) or
ECSTACY, which is now affecting
the affluent members of society
- Elevated alertness.
- Hallucinations
- Blurred vision
- Feeling faint

OPIUM (Papaver somniferum L.)
Opium is commonly smoked, but can also
be injected, swallowed or drunk
- intense sadness
- irregular periods and difficulty having children
- damaged heart, lungs, liver and brain
- damage to veins, skin, heart and lung infections
from injecting

- seizure
- Weakness
- loss of consciousness
- Coma
- death

Types of Drugs
3 Main Types:
1. Depressants slow down, or depress, the functions of the central
nervous system . In moderate doses, depressants can make you
feel relaxed. In larger doses, depressants can cause
unconsciousness by reducing breathing and heart rate. A
person's speech may become slurred and their movements
sluggish and uncoordinated.

These can include:


• alcohol;
• opium opiates and opioids (heroin) , morphine, codeine,
methadone and buprenorphine;
• cannabis or marijuana;
• minor tranquillizers diazepam such as Valium

2. Stimulants speed up or stimulate the central nervous system
and can make the users feel more awake, alert or confident.
Stimulants increase heart rate, body temperature and blood
pressure. Other physical effects include reduced appetite,
dilated pupils, talkativeness, agitation and sleep disturbance.

Types Include:
• Caffeine
• Nicotine in tobacco is a stimulant, despite smokers using it to
relax
• Ephedrine, used in medicines for bronchitis, hay fever, asthma
• Amphetamines and methamphetamines, also known as 'speed',
'ice' and 'crystal meth'

3. Hallucinogenic drugs distort the user's perceptions of reality.
The main physical effects are dilation of pupils, loss of appetite,
increased activity, talking or laughing, jaw clenching, sweating
and sometimes stomach cramps or nausea. Drug effects can
include a sense of emotional and psychological euphoria and
well-being. Visual, auditory and tactile hallucinations may occur,
causing users to see or hear things that do not actually exist.

These drugs include:


• LSD, also known as 'trips', 'acid' and 'microdots';
• ecstasy (MDMA/methylenedioxymethamphetamine), also known
as 'E', 'XTC' and 'Eccies', produces a combination of
hallucinogenic and stimulant effects; and

• lose interest in school
• change friends (to hang out with kids who use drugs)
• become moody, negative, worried all the time
• ask to be left alone
• have trouble concentrating

• lose or gain weight
• cough a lot
• have a runny nose all of the time

•Maintain good physical and mental health. Develop strong moral
and spiritual foundations.

medical advice.

without the use of drugs.

PENALTY: Life Imprisonment to Death


FINE: Ranging from Five Hundred
Thousand Pesos (P500,000.00) to
Ten Million pesos (P10,000,000.00).
SECTION 6
Maintenance of a Den, Dive or Resort
where any Dangerous Drug is used or
sold in any form.

PENALTY: Life Imprisonment to Death

FINE: Ranging from Five Hundred

SECTION 11
Possession of Dangerous
Drugs.
10 GRAMS OR MORE OF:
opium, morphine, heroin, cocaine or
