Benchmarking:
It is a the practice of measuring the
performance of our organization against
world-class organisations.
Robert C. Camp first coined the term
“Benchmarking” in 1980 while he was
engaged in studying the improvement
program at Xerox Corporation, U.S.A.
According to Camp, “Benchmarking is
finding and implementing best practices
in the business”.
Internal Benchmarking: Sharing opinions between
departments within the same organization.
External Benchmarking: Comparison with external
organizations to discover new ideas & methods.
Process Benchmarking: Compare the methods &
practices for performing processes.
Performance Benchmarking: Comparing one’s own
performance with that of other competitive organization.
Strategic Benchmarking: Compare the long-term,
significant decisions & actions undertaken by other
organization to achieve their objectives.
