Management Styles

Autocratic Leader
Roz from Monsters Inc.
demonstrates autocratic
leadership as she does not rely
on others or allow Mike
Wazowski to have an input in
how the company is operated.
Autocratic leaders are heavily
seen as “bossy” or “controlling”
which is shown with Roz as she
has firm rules and requires
Mike’s paperwork to be handed
in immediately with no
compromise.
Autocratic Leader
Darth Vader from Star Wars
demonstrates autocratic
leadership as he believes his way
of ruling is the only correct way.
Darth Vader doesn’t take input
from others. He relies heavily on
his “team” to follow his orders
and his specific direction. He does
not trust or allow group members
to be part of the decision making
process and is seen as the “ruler”.
Laissez-Faire Leader
John Hammond from Jurassic
Park demonstrates the Laissez-
faire type of management as he
offers minimal direction and
leaves the decisions in the
hands of the employees. He had
given the employees sizeable
funding to allow for the
production of the park and then
dropping in for a surprise visit.
Though the hands off approach
may not be the wisest with a
park full of dinosaurs.
Laissez-Faire Leader
Gregory House from House
MD. is a laissez-faire leader
as he gives very little
guidance to his team and
expects them to make a
diagnosis and run his
department on their own.
Though he still provides
them with full access and all
the necessary tools he is
continuously absent from
the decision making process
and puts little input into the
final decision.
Democratic Leader
Mufasa from The Lion King is a
democratic leader as he
demonstrates wise knowledge
and is the “king of the pride”
though he respects the circle and
the other animals of Pride Rock,
encouraging them to contribute
to change. This is shown not only
in his actions but the respect and
trust shown by the other animals.
Also Mufasa dedicates time into
teaching and empowering Simba
to in the future take over his role
as King.
Democratic Leader
Dumbledore from Harry Potter is
a democratic leader as he shares
the decision making process with
the other members of the
“board”. Dumbledore is well
respected and trusted in the
wizarding community by the
wizarding students as well as by
the professors. Dumbledore
shares his intelligence and
wisdom, as well as demonstrating
courage when faced with conflict.
