UNIID-SEA, Inc.
A network of higher education and research institutions in
ASEAN countries that seeks to integrate, operationalize, and
mainstream “innovation for inclusive development” (IID) in
learning, research, and extension services.

We are supporting innovative and collective problem-solving

with targeted poor, marginalized, and vulnerable communities
in the region to have more prosperous, sustainable, and
inclusive ASEAN nations.

Why is social innovation becoming more popular as
an approach to social development ?
1) When we talk about social development, only CHANGE IS
CONSTANT; no one-size-fits-all solution and one-time response
to a problem.

1) We need BETTER AND FASTER RESULTS. The poor needs to

develop faster than the rest of us so they can catch up.

1) We need to SCALE THE IMPACT of development efforts to make

a dent on the lives of the poor.

1) Poverty is a wicked problem (multi-dimensional, multi-

generational global issue). We need to find NEW WAYS OF
WORKING TOGETHER to move people out of poverty.

Social Innovation in Service Learning

• The NSTP is an institutionalized program for service learning that

can be reinvented to unlock the social innovation potential of
Philippine communities.

• UNIID-SEA is now looking for university partners for this new

program, which will, in 2016:
1. Design NSTP 2.0: Social Innovation in Service Learning
to enhance current NSTP programs (ROTC, CWTS, LTS).
2. Pilot an SISL Boot Camps for instructors, facilitators
and students (basic training and application).
3. Institutionalize the SISL Design and Certification Program
for building skills/competencies in human security and
protection, community engagement, SI design and
project management.
