 A Festival Creation Workshop participated by

representatives from the different sectors in the
community was conducted in order to determine the
festival Argao should have

 Proposed festivals included:

• Retention of the Pitlagong Festival
• Torta Festival
• Tableya Festival
• Hablon Festival
Why “La Torta” ?
The festival theme was clearly based from the
strong Spanish influence to the town.

“La” = The

“Torta” = Sweet Cakes

 The Torta plays a major role in an
Argaowanon home’s celebrations of joy and
sorrow.
(fiestas, birthdays, wakes, etc.)

The Torta can also be a tasty gift/souvenir as

a form of gratitude to family, friends, and/or
visitors.
 The La Torta Festival lyrics also includes:

Tuba
Tableya
Hablon
Beach
The mystery of Maria Cacao and Mangao
Hospitable Argaowanons
United and proud Argawaonons aiming for progress
Reverence to the protection and guidance of Sr. San Miguel
de Archangel

 Argao’s La Torta Festival presented at the 2011 Pasigarbo
sa Sugbo at the CICC

 Awards:
• First : Street dancing Competition
• Third : Showdown Competition
• Winner : Festival Jingle
• Placer : Festival Queen
January 2012
 Cebu Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia, along with the provincial
government’s department heads joined the La Torta Festival contingent
at the opening and in the finale of the 2012 Sinulog celebrations.
