FESTIVAL
MATAGOAN FESTIVAL
• Is a yearly occasion held every June 24th  to 26th  in Tabuk City, the capital of Kalinga
territory.
• “Matagoan” means Life Giving and this year, an enhanced street dance parade competition
called on street dancing contingents from all over the country to join the annual celebration,
themed “Rang-ay ken Balligi, Rambak ti Umili,” in celebration of the city’s founding
anniversary.

MATAGOAN FESTIVAL
• A social celebration exhibiting the distinctive societies, customs and in addition the local and
current results of the different indigenous networks of Tabuk City.
• It is additionally a celebration of Indigenous melodies, moves and rhythms. The four-day
merriments will open with an ecumenical thanksgiving administration took after by a socio-
social program at the city exercise center.

• The vivid bright colors of Cordillera ethnic groups dominate the more
subdued hues of the Tagalogs and Ilocanos.

need to accompany their dances.

• Included in the cultural fare during the Matagoan Festival is the 'dornat' or the
renewal of the 'bodong'.
• The bodong is the native peace pact practice prevalent among Kalinga tribes
which still exists during these days.
The "Matagoan Bodong Consultative Council" (MBCC), the peace-making
arm of the local government unit (LGU), sees the need of enacting the dornat
during the festival to highlight its importance in keeping the peace among native
Kalinga tribes. In its continuing efforts to find lasting peace in the city, the MBCC
pushes for regular renewal of the bodong as a means of reducing the tendency
problems marring their relations.
MATAGOAN FESTIVAL
With its wide lands and its being the center of education, government activities
and commerce, Tabuk Philippines is host to myriad activities intended for the
survival and improvement of individual and family life of its residents. To disrupt
these activities through disturbances in the peace is precisely what the MBCC
wants to avoid.
One of the intents of putting its culture to the fore during the Matagoan Festival is
to attract visitors to the city so aside from the usual cultural activities, the
originators have come up with unique culture-based gimmicks.
MATAGOAN FESTIVAL AGRI-
GAMES (PIG CATCHING)
• Native pig catching event. (Huli Mo Baboy Mo)
• This event is for everyone that wants to have a bounty to brought it home.
• Black pigs are one of the expensive pigs that are being sold in kalinga, This is
because of the new strains and breed that are being combined to make a hybrid
pig that do not have fats and has more taste.
MATAGOAN FESTIVAL AGRI-
GAMES (MATAGOAN RUN)

• the native culture-inspired activity which has become a permanent feature of


the Matagoan Festival is the Matagoan Run, a 7KM marathon wherein the
runners are supposed to wear nothing but G-string for the men. As for the
women, they are supposed to be in tapis or the native wraparound skirt and
also barefoot.
• This indigenous game is where you wear “bahag” or g-string and race.
• It may look a simple race, but the essence here is the unity and the
preservation of the kalinga culture, it must be passed from generations to
generations.
MATAGOAN FESTIVAL
Apart from attracting tourists and giving its own residents a chance to take a good
look and appreciate the varied culture of the city and its tourism spots, the
Matagoan Festival also aims to boost local trade and industry.
To accomplish this, the LGU has chosen to retain the Patawid Agro-industrial Fair
as a permanent feature of the festival. The fair showcases local agricultural and
industrial products the whole duration of the festival.
