problems such; Rapid urbanization Inadequate land use planning Unsustainable agricultural and industrial production methods Poor environmental management Poor cultural practices Inappropriate ecosystem protection and management URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT The country is experiencing urban problems hence to ensure sustainable urbanization and development , the government shall; Undertake an audit and map out the number and location of informal settlements and provide legal security of tenure; Provide funding and mobilize resources for upgrading of informal settlements; Create an enabling environment for urban development and public-private partnerships in the housing sector; Establish land banks and make land available for investment, development redistribution, restitution and resettlement; Project the actual land requirement for urban development, delineate and fix urban boundaries after every 10 year period. URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT. Harmonize urban plans with the long term national development plans Undertake the development of secondary towns. Protect agricultural land from indiscriminate extensions. Manage spatial growth of areas for adequate development. Consider the re-conceptualization of zoning and sub-division control, Provide efficient amenities for urban settlements; Create and protect green and recreational areas within urban centres; Review building and planning Enhance awareness on the availability of affordable proto- type plans for low-income housing. URBAN ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT. The government will overcome the urban related problems in the following ways; Zone riparian areas, wetlands, escarpments, forests, open spaces and parks in the urban areas Restore and reclaim riparian areas, wetlands, escarpments, forests, open spaces and parks that may have been allocated. Promote appropriate waste management technologies (reduce, recycle, reuse). Develop mechanisms to minimize air, water and land pollution; Develop strategy and framework for improving urban solid and waste water management systems; Establish measures to regulate urban and peri-urban mining.
