2-Speed Motor
Assembly

rexroth 2 speed motor assembly

1
Always follow established hydraulic component
installation procedures when assembling motor.

What are they?

Apply a small amount of grease and install locating pin
Install new o-rings and
seals.

Allow 30 minutes for the

seals to set on the
distributor before
installing the distributor.

Install the 12 springs

using a small amount of
grease.

When installing
distributor, align
locating pin hole with
locating pin (see arrow).
Install distributor Make sure locating pin
is aligned with hole
Install brake
shaft, snap ring
end up.

Install the o-ring

using a light coat
of grease.

6
Dip in oil and install piston assemblies in their original bore
Install cylinder
block assembly.

Place the cam ring

on the housing
and start the 2
cam ring holding
bolts.
Turn the motor
over onto the
cylinder block.

Be careful so the
cylinder block
stays in place.

Tighten the 2 cam

ring mounting bolts
to 28 ft.-lbs.
Shift spool

O-ring

Grease and install the o-ring onto the housing.

Install the shift spool.

Grease and install o-ring
Place the brake housing on the motor housing and align the marks.
Install the 8 mounting bolts to 55 ft.-lbs.
Measure the thickness of each brake disc. If
any disc is .037” or less, replace the complete
disc pack. (Normal thickness is .039”.)

If a new disc pack is installed you

must check and adjust brake pre-load.
Outer disc

Install brake disc pack starting with an outer disc.

Alternate inner and outer until they are all installed.
You will end with an outer disc.
Install the brake seal
Coat piston with oil and install a new piston seal.
Install the piston in the brake housing.
Brake plate

Cover gasket
Install brake plate
Piston in place
and end cover
gasket
Install brake pre-load washer(s)

Install end cover and

tighten to 11 ft.-lbs.
Brake pre-load procedure

Perform whenever brake disc pack is replaced

After the piston is
installed, place the
motor assembly in a
press.

Be careful to keep the

cylinder block assembly
in place.

Apply 4,500 lbs. of

force to the center of
the piston.
With the motor in the
press and the
downward force being
applied, measure the
distance from the top
of the brake housing to
the top of the piston.

Record to 3 decimal
places.
Subtract .269” from the depth that you measured.
(brake thickness + gasket thickness)
This is the desired washer thickness.

Select a washer or combination of washers with a

thickness of +/- .006” of the desired thickness determined
above.
Example: Measured depth =.363
subtract .269
Select washers to achieve .094” +/- .006”
Desired washer thickness range (.088 - .100)
Install washer(s) and complete assembly
