 The purpose
To appreciate someone’s
performance, appearance or
achievement, we can give her a
compliment
1. Compliment for Appeareance or Things Worn
- I really like your hair
- You look handsome
- It looks good on you
- That’s a lovely jacket
2. Complimentfor Performance
- That was a nice performance
- You’re wonderful on the stage
- I think you are very grent
- You’re doing great
3. Compliment for Achievement
- Good job
- You’re a great student
- You’re smart

 Accepting invitation
When we are invited or asked by someone
to somewhere, we have to thank the
person for the invitation. In other words, we
have to express our pleasure at beinging
invited and the get details of place and
time
 Refusing Invitation
when we want to refuse an invitation, we
need a reason in order to appreaciate her
who invites us. We have to say apology,
We use some phrases to make invitations. They could be
formal or informal, depending on the context.
Examples:
- I would like to invite you to have dinner next Sunday at my
place.
- I was wondering if you'd like to come to have dinner on
Wednesday
- Would you like/care to have dinner with us on Saturday?
- What/How about dinner tonight?
- Let's go to our place for dinner.
With “Would you like...”
we DO NOT use gerund (-ing)
I would like TO STUDY (Correct)
I would like studying (Incorrect)
To accept an invitation we can use phrases like
these:
- Thanks for your invitation. I'd be
delighted to.
- Thank you. I'd love to.
- Yes, thanks. That would be
great/wonderful.
- Sounds great/like fun.
- OK/All right.
They can be formal or informal
We can use these phrases to refuse an invitation.
- I'm awfully/terribly sorry. I have other plans for that night.
- I'd really like to, but I have an appointment that day.
- Thanks for asking, but I'm afraid I'm busy.
- I can't. I've got a lot of work to do.
- Sorry. I'm already tied up.
They can be formal or informal.
Culture note:
In the USA, it is okay to tell someone that
you cannot accept his or her invitation
(go to a party, lunch, have dinner, etc.
But when Americans refuse an invitation
they usually give a reason why they
cannot go.
