DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
• A descriptive text is a text which describes a
particular person, things or place. In a
descriptive text the writer usually uses the
simple present tense.
• The social function is to describe a particular
person, place or thing.
• Generic structure : identification – description.
• Focus on specific participants; use of simple
present tense.
DESCRIBING PEOPLE

• HOW TO DESCRIBE SOMEONE


• We use adjectives to describe someone’s
physical appearance and personality.
• Some example of adjective are : handsome,
beautiful, short, tall, long, thin, curly wavy,
straight, fat, etc.
• These are the ways of describing someone’s
physical appearance:
– He is tall
– Her hair is curly
– She has beautiful blue eyes
DESCRIBING PLACE OR THINGS

How to describe place or things has


the same way with describing people.
We use adjective to explain or describe
the condition of the place or things we
want to describe. It usually precedes
the noun/pronoun or is used as the
compliment of the sentences.
EXAMPLES

Describing Person
Anna is my lovely sister. She is seven years old. She has an oval face,
Short wavy hair and white skin. Her nose is very sharp. I love her very much
Because she is very beautiful and funny.

Describing Place
Parangtritis beach is one of my favorite tourist object. It has beautiful
Panorama. The wave is very beautiful. Sometimes it becomes very big
So we should obey the warning to save our life. The sand is also very clean.
I like to go there very much.

Describing Things
My classroom is big. There are 19 tables and 36 chairs in my classroom.
In front of the class, there is a teacher’s desk and a chair. There is a flag
In the corner. There is also a dustbin near the door. I like my classroom
Because it is tidy and clean. We clean it everyday. I usually do it on Friday.
PROCEDURE TEXT
A procedure is a piece of writing which gives instructions
about how to do or to make something. In writing a
procedure or a set of instructions, you use the base form
of verb, e.g. crack, whisk. This use of the verb known as
the imperative mood. Often the reader is referred to
directly, e.g. eat while warm
Type of procedure :
• Recipe
Instruction manuals
Experiment reports
Spoken directions
Features of procedure texts :
• Aim
The opening phrase states the purpose of the procedure. It usually
emphasizes how the procedure is to be followed for the goal to be
achieved successfully.
• Materials (ingredients and utensils)
This section lists all the materials, including tools and other equipment,
needed for the procedure to be successful or effective.
• Method
The method is presented in a series of steps. In this recipe, the steps
are in chronological order.
• Evaluation
Some procedures, such as experiments, include comments that evaluate
the success of procedures.
Notes :
This text usually uses Imperative verbs, simple present tense, connectives
Of time, and quantifiers. Sometimes illustrations may be used to help the
Reader understand the text better.
HOW TO MAKE A CHEESE OMELETTE

• Ingredients : 1 egg cooking oil


50 g cheese salt
¼ cup milk pepper
• Utensils : frying pan, fork, spatula, cheese grater, bowl plate
1. Method : 1. Crack an egg into a bowl
2. Whisk the egg with fork until it is smooth
3. Add milk and whisk well
4. Grate the cheese into the bowl and stir
5. Heat the oil in a frying pan
6. Pour the mixture into the frying pan
7. Turn the omelette with a spatula when it’s brown
8. Cook both sides
9. Place on plate, season it with salt and pepper
10. Eat while warm
PENUGASAN

house and your village in one of paper!
• 2. Write one recipe of food you like in
form of procedure!
