INTRODUCTION

When the telecommunication industry rolls out 5G wireless

technology, it will allow greater number of connected
devices to transmit data at much faster speeds.

• The Fifth Generation of Wireless technology

(5G) is the latest iteration of cellular
technology, engineered to greatly increase
the speed and responsiveness of wireless
networks.

• It is expected to create the “network of

networks” which will deliver higher
bandwidth and lower latency than ever
before.

• MNOs will need to evolve in three

fundamental ways: Virtualization,
 VIRTUALIZATION :

• To unlock networks’ true potential, mobile

network operators(MNOs) will need to shift from
physical hardware to virtualization.

• For example, by moving baseband processing

units from cell sites to a centralized location
known as centralized radio access networks(C-
RANs), MNOs can lower latency while reducing
the amount of equipment necessary on site.

• Virtualization can improve other parts of the

network- better managing network architecture
through network function virtualization (NVF) as
well as airwaves through cell virtualization.

• In addition, MNOs can better control quality of

experience for each individual subscriber.
DENSIFICATION

• To achieve bandwidth without boundaries,

MNOs will need to increase the density of
their networks by adding more antennas
and small cell sites while upgrading to
MIMO and sector-spitting technologies.

• With densification, interference becomes

more challenging as additional handoffs
increase the possibility of dropped
connections.
OPTIMIZATION :

• MNOs will need to place cloud

computing capabilities closer to
edge for lower latency.

• In addition ,MNOs will need to

better manage their frequencies,
anticipate future power needs, and
deploy more time division
duplex(TDD) technology.

• MNOs will need to focus on

ensuring a clean RF path to reduce
• The next generation telecom
networks[5G] will hit the market by
2020.

• Beyond just speed improvements, 5G

is expected to unleash a massive IoT
ecosystem where networks can serve
communication needs for billions of
connected devices, with right trade-
offs between speed, latency and cost.
5G FEATURES
 BLAZIING FAST INTERNET

• One of the obvious advantages of the 5G

network is the huge bump in internet
speeds that users would enjoy, once
they get access to it.

• Here ,we are talking about 100 times

more data speeds over the air.

• While a 4G network is capable of

offering speeds of up to a maximum of
50 Mb/s, in 5G we are talking about
internet speed crossing the 10Gb/s mark
on an average
Reduced Latency :

• Latency is the delay between making a

request and the request being carried
out.

• 5G is looking to close the gap between

action and response.

• If all goes well, we will be able to watch

all our shows and play all our games on
our phones with hardly any lag.
 Greater Capacity :

• 5G will have an increased bandwidth to

meet capacity needs.

• This will reduce the strain from gadgets

and objects that run off wi-fi.

• These objects are on the rise due to

expansion of IoT and the increasing need
for devices to be connected via internet.

• IoT(Internet of Things) refers to the

network of devices that connect and share
data using embedded sensors.
• Thermostats, cars, refrigerators and other
appliances can be connected to the IoT
and share data accordingly.

• Experts believe that 30 billion objects will

be connected to the IoT by 2020.

• This would cause enormous strain on

bandwidth, but 5G is more than prepared
for the challenges of the future.

• Its high spectrum band (with higher

frequency signals) will decrease the
strain and allow greater access for users.
 CUSTOM MADE NETWORK SLICES :

• With current networks, only one size fits all

solutions, but different applications have
different needs.

• For instance, in case of gaming, we need

access to an ultra-low latency, super fast
data network that can carry out signals and
deliver them back without a delay, but if we
are only messaging, using such high speed
network would simply be a wastage of
resources.

• 5G network understands and helps users by

offering custom network slices or custom
network options to its users.
 BETTER BATTERY LIFE FOR DEVICES

• The network promises to offer

better battery life as well.

• The constant monitoring allows the

network to offer the best possible
connection to the devices and
thereby reducing a major load off of
them to keep searching for a better
network.
MULTIPLE SERVICES CAN RUN IN
PARALLEL :

• The current network does not have

enough bandwidth to offer similar
kind of support to multiple
applications at the same time.

• But, with massive internet speeds

and higher device handling
capacity, 5G will make sure to offer
the best performance even while
running multiple applications at the
Fantastic User Experience :

• Let us take another look at the benefits:

faster download speed, increasing browsing
speed, less lag and greater bandwidth.

• All these benefits will give users a fantastic

experience online.
MASSIVE MIMO
TECHNOLOGY
Massive MIMO technology will almost certainly be a core component
of the super fast 5G networks of the future

What is Massive MIMO ?

• MIMO stands for Multiple-input Multiple-output.

• MIMO can be essentially boiled down to the single

principle : a wireless network that allows the transmitting
and receiving of more than one data signal
simultaneously over the same radio channel, typically
using separate antenna for transmitting and receiving of
each data signal.

• Massive MIMO is a system with an especially high number

of antennas.

• As MMO systems need to physically pack more antennas

into a small area, they require the use of higher
frequencies than current mobile network standards.
MIMO AND 5G
• One of the key roles of any 5G network will
be to handle the huge increase in data
usage that’s around the corner.

• Cisco estimates that by 2020, when 5G is

set to roll out in the UK –there will be 5.5
billion mobile users around the world, each
consuming 20GB of data per month on
average.

• Massive MIMO’s ability to serve multiple

users and multiple devices- simultaneously
within a condensed area while maintaining
fast data rates and consistent performance
makes it the perfect technology to address
the needs of the forthcoming 5G era.
COUNTRIES USING 5G TECHNOLOGY.

• South Korea Telecom has become the

first nation in Asia to launch
commercial 5G networks in Dec 2018
in Seoul and 6 other major cities. SK
Telecom also started deploying 5G
infrastructure in K-City, country's first
city for self-driving cars, during the
beginning of 2018.
