Kinds of Discrimination
 Age Discrimination – involves treating someone
less favorably because of his age.
 It is discrimination and stereotyping based on
the grounds of someone’s age.
 It is a set of beliefs, norms, values which used
to justify discrimination or subordination based
on a person’s age.
 It is most often directed towards old people, or
adolescents and children.
Kinds of Discrimination
 Gender Discrimination – involves treating
someone unfavorably because of that person’s
sex.
 It also can involve treating someone less
favorably because of his or her connection
with an organization or group that is generally
associated with people of a certain sex.

 Marital Status Discrimination – is treating, or
proposing to treat, someone unfavorably because
of a personal characteristic protected by the law.
This includes bullying someone because of a
protected characteristic.
 Marital status is whether you are, or are not,
single, married, divorced, widowed, separated,
a domestic partner or in a de facto relationship.
‘Domestic partner’ refers to all couples,
regardless of their sex and sexual orientation.

 Physical Appearance Discrimination –
involves treating a person unfavorably because
of his or her looks.

 Religious Affiliation Discrimination – involves
treating a person unfavorably because of his or
her religious beliefs.
 It is valuing or treating a person or group
differently because of what they do or do not
believe or because of their feelings towards a
given religion.

 Nationality Discrimination – involves treating
people unfavorably because they are from a
particular country or part of the world, because of
ethnicity or accent, or because they appear to be
of a certain ethnic background (even if they are
not).
 It can also involve treating people unfavorably
because they are married to (or associated
with) a person of a certain national origin or
because of their connection with an ethnic
organization or group.
