Aditya Vikram Birla the man who integrated Indian economy with the world economy, is
remembered for creating India’s first multi-national corporation.
He built a business empire spanning continents much before globalization became a virtue and the
borders of the country were deemed too small to accommodate the ambitions of the aspiring Indian
entrepreneur. Thereby placing India on the world map in 1969.
Born in 1944 in Calcutta, one of the most prominent industrial and financial families of India,
Aditya’s grandfather, Ghyansham Das Birla, was a founder of one of the formidable business group –
Birla Group and began his fortune with manufacturing of Ambassador car and aluminum
prospecting. But it was under the aegis leadership of Aditya Birla that the company was able to
intensify and firm its presence in the core sectors.
