HVAC Components Smart but HOW? Demerits Questions?

What is HVAC?
An Introduction!
HVAC
Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning
as the name suggests is the
system to control the
temperature & quality of
the air for providing
comforting & hygienic
environment to people.
HVAC
Heating
Heating the air to maintain it’s
temperature from 20 °C to 24 °C
according to American Society of
Heating, Refrigerating and Air-
Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)

Ventilation
Replacing air in a space to control
temperature or remove CO2,
contaminants, moisture, odors, smoke,
heat, dust and airborne bacteria
According to ASHRAE standard: 20
CFM per person in work environment

Air Conditioning
You can simply impress your audience
and add a unique zing and appeal to
your Presentations. Easy to change
colors, photos and Text.
What is a
Smart HVAC System?

When conventional HVAC

system which is a Manual
Control system is attached
to a digital thermostat to
provide digital mobile
control of components
based on Artificial
Intelligence, The system is
then called a Smart HVAC

Thermostat
Evaporating Coil
It is used to cool
down the air when
Evaporating Coil
your thermostat is set
to a lower
temperature. This
cold air is then
funneled throughout
your home.
Condensing Unit
This is the outdoor unit
and is filled with
Condensing Unit
refrigerant gas. When the
refrigerant is cooled, the
condensing unit pumps
this liquid to the
evaporator coil to be
transformed into gas
again.
Compressor
It compresses the
refrigerant gas to
Compressor derive the
refrigeration process.
As temperature rises
in the compressor the
gas is sent to the
condenser to cool
Vents
These are the outlets
that help distribute Vents
heated and cooled
air from the duct
system into the
various rooms of your
home.
Refrigerating Lines
These lines carry
Refrigerating Lines
refrigerant from one
unit to another like
from Compressor to
Condenser.
What makes it
SMART?
Thermostat
Can be set manually and
programmed to keep
your home at your ideal
temperature.
When the ambient
temperature gets too hot
or cold, it triggers your
HVAC system to start
circulating air as needed.
Why do we need
SMART HVAC?

Smart Phone Application

Main System
Main system deals with input of the other
components i.e. Thermostat & Smart phone &
process them to control the components which
are of course the first components at the boiler
& the Condenser.
Controller
It is directly connected to the compressor and
can communicate wirelessly with second
component the main control
Thermal
Sensor
• The thermal sensor is
the Component that
measures the temperature
by variation of resistance.
• Also known as thermistor,
the change in resistance of
these sensor is send as an
electronic signal to main
system.
• The main system can then
close or open the duct of the
room split depending upon
the readings.
Occupancy
Sensor
• Occupancy sensor detects
whether a room is occupied or
not.
• These sensor works through
technologies such as
passive infrared detection.
• A Occupancy sensor can
placed on the door of the
room for required measurement
or there can be more
than one sensor in a room.
• The required action again is
handled by the main system
Humidity
Sensor
• Humidity sensors are made
usually of capacitive material
whose capacitance changes
with amount water vapor in it.
• Humidity sensors send data to
main system which takes
required action based on the
readings.
• The main system changes the
setting of air filters accordingly
after processing the readings
from sensors.
Smart Phone
Application
Remote access via Internet
from miles away!

• Smart HVAC comes with a

phone app that requires an
internet connection to set up
the HVAC system through the
phone app
• Phone app provide flexibility
to control HVAC from literally
anywhere, just with an
internet connection
Thermal Sensors in Condenser / Compressor
OTHER
Sensors

• Pressure sensors

Pressure Sensor
to detect any leaks
or corrosion in the
pipes.

• Thermal sensors
can placed on
Condenser or
Compressor such
to protect them in
case of any
abnormal behavior.
OTHER

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Sensor

Sensors
• Duct smoke detectors

Dust Smoke Sensor

are used primarily to
prevent the HVAC
system from spreading
smoke through a
building

• The basic IAQ sensor

is a carbon sensor,
which detects carbon
levels in the air.
Carbon dioxide
sensors use either
infrared light or a
chemical process to
measure levels of CO2.
In a recent report “ Digitalization and energy
savings " (2017), the International Energy Agency
(IEA) states that digitalization could save around
10% of total energy consumption in residential
and commercial buildings by 2040.

The
Origins

In 2008, the United Nations launched a campaign to raise

thermostats in their secretariat building from 70 to 75°F as
one of many strategies to reduce their carbon emissions.
Hence the name, 75f.
