Social,Political and

cultural change
 Change is generally persvasive and takes place in culture society and politics. Change in
culture bring change in society and human being; like wise, changes in society and human
being bring change in culture and politics. These changes are even overlapping and
independent contemporary times due to factors affecting social mobility , such as migration
urbanization,transnationalism,and globalization. Let us define each type of change either in
social, political, and cultural aspects.

Social change - refers to an alteration in the social order of a society. Social change may
include changes in nature, social institutions,social behaviors, or social relation.

There are three causes of social change : Invention,Discovery,Disffusion.

• Invention – is often defined as a new combination or a new use of existing knowledge. It


produces mechanical objects,ideas,and social patterns that reshape society to varying degrees.
• Discovery –define as “the process by which something is learned or reinterpreted” discovery
influences change by causing people to learn new things which may change their viewpoints,
or change their routine to better themselves based off of the new information found through
discovery. For example when early explorers began to explore the ocean, they discovered that
the earth wasn’t flat but rather was round. This lead to new maps being printed as well as new
water ways and trade routes developing due to new exploration under the idea that there was
no “End of the earth” to fall off of.
Dissfusion – is defined a” the process by which one culture or society borrows
from another culture or society”. Disffusion is widley influenced by the contact
that one has with another: the more interaction societies have the easier their
cultures will begin to bleed together of course an element from one culture has to
blend will with the life and activities of another before it is adopted.

Political change – occurs when the rules in the country lose power of the
type of governance in the country changes.governance is the type of system used
to rule a country.

Culture change - is a term used in public policy making that emphasizes


the influence of cultural capital on individual and community behavior it has been
sometimes called repositioning of culture, which means the reconstruction of the
cultural concept of society.

culture change
Invention - Technological change has a broad impact on culture. For example, the
internet allows people to connect to social groups and media that represent a particular
world view.

Economy - Economic system and conditions. A nation that has growing middle class
may experience an enrichment of culture as people have the economic security to
pursue happiness.

Globalization – The process of exchange and integration that occurs between


nation. This is a long term process that has been underway for centuries but has
accelerated due to advancements in communication,transportation, peace and
cooperation.

War & Disaster – Conflict and disaster that destabilize a society. That may result
in an abandonment of cultural pursuits as people focus on survival and security.

Ideas – The emergence and diffusion of new ideas. This may be a process of survival
of the fittest whereby good ideas survive over time and bad ideas are eventually
overcome.
Aesthetics – Aesthetic taste changes with time as new styles emerge and people
emulate it. For example, ever changing fashion trends.

Rights & Freedom – A nation that grants rights and freedoms to people may allow
culture to flourish whereas oppression may subvert culture. For example, freedom of
speech whereby people aren’t penalized for voicing unpopular ideas allows for brave
literature and art.

Law – Laws and regulations have broad cultural impacts. For examples, laws requiring
businesses to close at a particular hour that restrict the night economy of a city.

Design – Design impacts culture.for example, the urban design of cities influences how
communities interact such as a city full of parks, public space and café terraces that
develops a lively feel.

Infastructure – Hard infrastructure such as public sidewalks and soft infrustucture


such as hospitals for examples, the contructions of roads for automobiles beginning in
the early 20th century that transformed cities into concrete jungles with vast suburbs.
Health – Health can have a significant impact on culture. For example. The
theory known as the lead-crime hypothesis that links declining crimes rates in
multiple countries to the phase out of lead in gasoline and other products.

Education – Education is a foundation of culture beginning with basic language


and social skills that provide the tools to discover and use knowledge.

Environment – environmental change impacts cultures. For examples,a city


with low air quality such that people avoid that outdoors or an island where people
have stopped going to the beach due to ocean plastics and causes beaches to
resemble a garbage dump.

Art,Music,Literature& media – Art,music,literature and media are


elements of culture that also serve as potent forms of social criticism and
construction.

Leaders – Leaders that unify a people or group towards a common purpose. A


leader can also become a symbol of a culture such as martin luther king jr.as an
inspirational figure of black American culture.
