ASSESSMENT IN ART APPRECIATION

Instruction: Explain the following words/ Statement base on your understanding. Expound your
answer!

1. What is the significance of Creativity, Imagination, and Expression in Art?


 The significance of creativity, imagination, and expression in art is that first is the
creativity in art, so as an artist we need to think an art that outside the box,
something that is unique from others artwork, we should also remember that, a
creative artist does not simply copy or imitate another artist‟s artwork. Next is the
imagination, through our imagination we can create a good artwork that can catch
the attention of our audience or viewers. Also people‟s curiosity in imaginations
can create a something bold, something new and something better for their
artwork. Lastly is the expression in art, through expression we can able to explore
our own emotions at the same time, create something beautiful out of them, that‟s
why if we will combine these three things in our artwork, which is creativity,
imagination and expression at the end of the day we can create a something useful
and beautiful artworks.

2. Explain the statement “Not everyone can be considered an Artist, but surely, all are
spectators of Art”.
 In this statement that “Not everyone can be considered an Artist, but all are
expectators of Art”, simply mean that every one of us can possess the power
to understand art and its meaning but not all of us can make an artwork and
we should always remember that even though we are artist or not, we are
always gives us role in the field of appreciation.

3. Explain the following types of Arts and give some examples in each type.

a. Visual Arts
 A visual art basically is anything that can appeal and catch our attentions visually.
Artist‟s produce visual arts driven by their desire to reproduce things that they
have seen in the way that they perceived them. And the examples of the visual
arts are paintings, drawings, lettering, printing, sculptures, digital imaging and
more.

b. Performance Arts
 A performance art basically is a live art and the artist‟s medium is mainly the
human body which he/she uses to perform. They also use props or sound. The
examples of performance art are, dancing, acting, singing, spoken word poetry
and more.

c. Digital Arts
 A digital art is an artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as part of
the creative or presentation process. The examples of digital arts are digital
photography, photo painting, 2D and 3D computer graphics and more.

d. Literary Arts
 Literary arts basically the artist who practice literary arts using a words to express
themselves and communicate emotions to the readers. The examples of literary art
are novels, biographies, journalism, poems, short story, comics and more.

e. Applied Arts
 An applied art is incorporating design and elements of style to everyday items
with the aim of increasing their aesthetic value. In this art also the artist bring the
beauty, charm and comfort into many things that are useful in everyday life. The
examples of applied art are industrial design, graphic design, fashion design,
interior design and decorative arts.

4. Explain the following Functions of Arts.

a. Personal Functions of Art


 When we say personal functions of art, it talks about or serves as means of
expression for us, so for example in music and literature, through this we can
express our motions and experiences in our life. Secondly personal functions also
helps us educate our senses and sharpen our perception of environment,that can
lead us to intensified awareness, for example is watching films (bukod sa tayo ay
naaliw, hindi natin napapansin na nahahasa na yung ating isapin when it comes to
film making). Lastly is personal functions makes us aware of other ways of
thinking, feeling, imagining that have never occurred to us before, it simply
means that we expands our horizon for example is the novels of Jose Rizal, upon
reading the novels step by step we simply aware what‟s happening in our country
before, next example is the films, if we will watch it we realize that something is
real in our present time or there is many instances in that films that happen in real
life perspectives. It gives us away to be a critical thinker.

b. Social Functions of Art


 It is an art that gives a message to the society, for examples is the paintings,
photographs, posters, and cartoons that they been used to express humanitarian
concern as well as ideological or political comment. In short social functions of
art influence the social behavior of the audience or viewer.

c. Physical Functions of Art


 It is a form of functions, meaning we have the forms like shape and the functions
or the usefulness of the specific art, for example is the chair and knives, so as the
functions of chair is for sitting and the knives is for cutting. Next is physical
functions of art is the community planning (kung saan natin ilalagay particularly
yung isang bagay for example is parks, plaza,malls, street, buildings, roads and
etc.), without planning, our art will not grow faster. Community planning in a
physical functions of art can helps to our economy.

d. Spiritual Functions
 Spiritual functions expresses beliefs about the destiny of life controlled by a
higher power for examples is the religious art like the “Last Supper”, “Creation
of Adam” and etc.

e. Educational Functions
 Educational functions of art symbols and signs that illustrate knowledge, meant to
inform or tell a true story about the specific art that we can see for example is the
Science or Math Illustrations, Info graphics, Historical or Narrative Art.

5. Explain the following Philosophical perspectives on Arts, indicate the proponent or the
person behind perspectives on Art.

a. „Art as an Imitation‟
 Art as an imitation- hindi naman ibig sabihin ng imitation ay ginaya na yung
particular na artwork o yung buong artwork ay ginaya bagkus when we say art as
an imitation simply means that it‟s more of an inspiration in creating the whole
art- kumbaga may uniqueness din yung gawa mo kumpara dun sa original na
artwork.
 PLATO- proponent behind the perspective of “Art as an Imitation”

b. „Art as a Representation‟
 Aristotle as the proponent of this perspectives which is art as a representation,
he simply means that art is just a representation of what a certain reality would
like, he just wanted to tell us that art now or the artwork now that we are
going to do if we‟re going to draw a nature that it presents or it gives us this
understanding what is the possibility of the real nature would like.

c. „Art as a Disinterested Judgement


 Immanuel Kant as the proponent of this perspective in which he said tin
his critique of judgement that considered the judgement of beauty, the
cornerstone of art, as something that can be universal despite its. Kant
recognized the judgement of beauty is subjective. Subjectivity we already
know that art is subjective sometimes and it can also be objective now
when you say subjective- the interpretation it really depends on the actual
not just the artist but also the audience, the interpretation of the artist
might be different from what the actual audience actually perceive so
that's why it's subjective.

d. „Art as a Communication of Emotion


 According to Leo Tolstoy-which is the proponent of this perspective that art
plays a huge role in communication to its audience emotions that the artist
previously experienced- it only means that even though the artist is actually
died, the purpose of this art is to communicate emotions is still present or is
in.
