guards can help before, during and after
earthquake.
• Any situation that diverts an
organization from its normal operations
which waste time and/or financial
resources.

situation that requires immediate action.
• a sudden, calamitous event that seriously
disrupts the functioning of a community or
society and causes human, material, and
economic or environmental losses that
exceed the community's or society's ability to
cope using its own resources. (IFRC org.)

saving lives, preserving properties, and
restoring and or ensuring the continuous
operation of the company or
organization.

Rationale of the Activity
• Office Buildings are commonly affected even by
slightest seismic activity.
• The taller the building the more vulnerable it can
be.
• Hence, building owners should have earthquake
preparation plan to ensure safety of everyone;
and
• Security guards play a huge role in implementing
these plans to make sure that everyone is safe
before, during and after earthquake.

Ways Security Personnel can
help Before, During and After
Earthquake
Ways security guards can help:

Before earthquake:
• Inspect all areas that can be used to
evacuate the building. (Officer-in-Charge)
• Remove obstructions and other things that
may cause accidents during earthquake.
(OIC)
Ways security guards can help:
During earthquake:
• Sound the alarm when there is an actual
earthquake. (Communication Team)
• Control people and vehicle traffics during
evacuation. (Security Team)
• Assist children, elderly, pregnant women and
PWDs in evacuating the building. (Evacuation
Team)
Ways security guards can help:
After Earthquake:
• Conduct headcount to make sure that no
one is missing. (Security Team)
• Conduct clearing operations and/or search
and rescue procedure. (Search & Rescue
Team)
• Inform everyone if its already safe to come
back inside the building. (Communication Team)
Summary
• Earthquake preparedness plan helps reduce the risk of great
damage to life and property.
• Guards play the important role in implementing this plan
especially:
– Before earthquake (Inspect the entire areas and Remove
any obstruction.)
– During earthquake (Sound the alarm, control people &
vehicle traffic and assist PWDs, pregnant women, children
& elderly)
– After the quake (Headcount, clearing and SAR, Inform
everyone that they can safely reenter the building)
