Key Initiatives:

PC Refresh

1. As PC’s age, their support cost increases.

2. Warranties end, and new software can face compatibility problems with older machines.

3. Users have often accumulated software and data on the old computer, making it slower and more susceptible to failure.

4. It is also important to note that older machines might not have the processor speed or available RAM to run new software.

Older PC’s are more likely to experience failures.
5. 6.
Key Initiatives:

PC Refresh
• Keeping old PC’s will eventually incur increased support & maintenance costs. Older PC’s can cost up to 59%
more to support.

• As PC’s age, their support cost increases. Warranties end and new software can face compatibility problems with

• Older PC’s are more likely to experience failures.

Without an effective and reliable data backup solution that backs up the data on user PC’s an enterprise risks
failure to meet compliance regulations as well as incurring data breaches and data loss.

Older PC’s can negatively affect productivity causing user downtime and wasted IT resources because of increased
failures and thus more support requests.
Initiative: PC Refresh
Issue:
1. Keeping old PC’s will eventually incur increased support & maintenance costs.
2. Older PC’s can cost up to 59% more to support.

Cause:
1. Negligence on Computer Integrity.
2. Lack of PC review and maintenance
3. Un-anticipated equipment’s Near end of life assessment

Costs:
1. Replace 173 Intermittent and old computers.
2. Supplier agreed leasing System Unit (CPU only).
3. ~Php 16,000 more or less
4. Recurring - monthly payment for 1 year

Risks if do nothing:
1. Increased support costs.
2. It's a simple fact: as PCs get older, the associated support costs go up.
3. Security. Keeping systems, data and users secure is vital to all enterprises these days.
4. Reduced productivity.
5. Reduced device diversity.
6. Difficulty in maintaining multi-vendor relationships.
7. Older PC’s can negatively affect productivity causing user downtime and wasted IT resources because of increased failures
8. Warranties end, and new software can face compatibility problems with older machines
9. Without an effective and reliable data backup solution that backs up the data on user PC’s an enterprise risks failure to meet
compliance regulations as well as incurring data breaches and data loss.

Benefits:

1. Performance increase, which makes the overall computer run faster and more smoothly.

2. Capacity increase.

For example, adding a larger hard drive allows the computer to store more information.

3. Ability to run more newer programs efficiently and smoothly.

4. Less Security Issues, Computers running older software are usually at greater risk of security problems.

5. Maintenance Costs, Older computers are more likely to have performance problems.

Alternatives:

If in tight Budget, we can upgrade hardware peripherals of all the old computers such s HDD to SSD, RAM 8GB to 16GB, Old

Cases/housing to New Computer Cases, but bear in mind that we are just improving these computers performance and there are

no guarantee that these will become compatible with new software and client requirements.
Initiative: Server Room

Issue:

1. Temperature Status Meter – No device present

2. Electrical Load – Proper Distribution of Electrical Loads

3. Air Conditioning – Auto On Switch during Power Failures

4. Fire Extinguisher – Not compatible with Server Room requirements

5. UPS Battery backup – Need Per Rack Mount UPS

6. Network Cabinets – vent and knock down cabinets

7. Patch Panel I/O Ports – Not working I/O ports (Damaged)

8. Workstation I/O Ports – Not working I/O ports (Damaged)

9. Network Switches – Damaged Switch replacement, Compatibility Issues

Cause:

1. Temperature Status Meter – No device present

Server rooms need the right Temperature level, if the temperature is on higher side then
it can cause Condensation which can cause malfunction of IT equipment.

2. Electrical Load
Proper Distribution of Electrical load, hence the use of APC Rack mount per Cabinet.

2. Air Conditioning – Auto On Switch during Power Failures

When the AC power is restored, A special circuit to sense that an AC power has been
restored allowing to switch all Aircon switch to ON. This circuit normally use a relay Switch to do the
auto Switching.
Cause:

4. Fire Extinguisher – Not compatible with Server Room requirements

recommended HFC 2 27ea (heptafluoropropane), If the wrong fire extinguisher is used
for a fire in a computer server room, it could mean that the fire is fed instead of contained. Electrical
fires and fires involving computers and sensitive electronic equipment can be especially tricky.
Because these are examples of Class C fires (electrical fires). Most fire extinguishers in businesses
are ABC dry extinguishers. These fire extinguishers are more than capable of putting out type A, B
and C fires which can include fires from wood, paper, liquids, gases and electrical sources like space
heaters, computers and microwaves.
However, if you want to protect sensitive electronics in a server room or data center from fire
damage, you need to consider getting the right extinguisher for the job.

5. UPS Battery backup – Need Per Rack Mount UPS

for proper distribution of electrical load and to ensure longer battery end of life,
maintained easily since the batteries are replaced all at once.
Cause:

6. Network Cabinets – vent and knock down cabinets

Need to repair almost knocked down cabinets in the server room, the Cables are the
ones only holding the cabinets to stand up position.

7. Patch Panel I/O Ports – Not working I/O ports (Damaged)

Repunching and Repairs of Patch Panel I/O Ports is needed as some of these are got
damaged, corroded and/or misaligned by the earthquake.
Cause:

8. Workstation I/O Ports – Not working I/O ports (Damaged)

Repunching and Repairs of I/O Ports under each workstation denoted with D and V.
Data - D and Voice - V. Data ports are used for LAN/Internet Connectivity, while Voice is used for
separate connection for other network devices such as IP Phones or can be used as a backup I/O
port for data. Network issues such sudden internet loss is cause of I/O failures.
Cause:

9. Network Switches – Damaged Switch replacement, Compatibility Issues

a. Decommissioning old network switches - most of the old switch we have are having issues like
freezing (hanging), loss connection, etc.

Please see example took from the server room:

b. Network switch brand in Uniform - this way, it is very easy to troubleshoot, common trouble for all
switches (with the same brand) are the same therefore easy to troubleshoot and configure.

These Fire Extinguishers suppress fires rapidly with gaseous fire suppression agents that are
environmentally friendly and safe for use in Server rooms.
