SURVEY

Survey is a non-experimental type of research that attempt to


gather information about the status quo for a large number of
people by describing present conditions without analysing their
courses
It is a non experimental investigation in which information is
systematically collected but in which there is no active intervention
by the investigators.
USES OF SURVEY

❖Monitoring trends in oral health and


disease
❖Policy development
❖Program evaluation
❖Assessment of dental needs
❖Providing visibility for dental issues
ADVANTAGES OF SURVEY

❖ Provide information on some aspects of oral health status about


which information may not be available from any source
❖ Information pertaining to numerator as well as denominator
becomes available.This enables various rates and indices to be
calculated.
❖ Various association & correction btw different variables can be
identified& studied.
❖ Reasons for utilization as well as non-utilization of oral health
care services & facilities can be identified& studied
❖ Information from a well planned systematic survey is more
reliable complete and accurate compared to information
collected routinely.
TYPES OF SURVEY

DESCRIPTIVE SURVEY
It describes a particular situation.
Eg:The distribution of a disease in a population in relation
to sex,age& other characteristics.
ANALYTICAL SURVEY

It analyses particular disease in a specific


situation and tries to explain the situation.

CROSS SECTIONAL SURVEY


It deals with prevalence ,etiological factors of a
disease at a single time.
LONGITUDINAL SURVEY
Provides data about events and changes during a period of
time
eg:psychological survey.
