1. Overview and role of protection relay

 When a fault occurs in the facilities of the

power system, the protection relay detects
the fault and disconnects from the power
system

1. Overview and role of protection relay

 Install appropriate type of relays

 Relay settling value matching with actual

facilities condition

 Appropriate protection range and operating

time (appropriate protection relay setting
values)

 Coordinated with other facilities’ protection

relays

2. Cambodia Current Protection Issues

 Standardization of protected functions and setting for:

- 115 & 230 kV TLs
- 230 & 115 Network TRs
- 230 &115 kV unit TRs
- 230, 115, 15, 22 kV generator TRs
- Generator,
- 230, 115 & 22 kV Capacitor
- 230, 115 & 22 kV Reactor
- Motor
 Only 8% of the 115 kV TLs are protected by 87L.
 92% are protected with 21/21N only without AR. Is
21/21N alone secure enough to protection the system?
(Ex. Short line-both end infeed)
 Experience of burning of power transformer, NGR,
Reactor, Capacitor, 22 kV switchgear
