INTERIOR

the interior decorations consisted of abstract designs on marble slabs on

the walls and floors, as well as mosaics on the curving vaults. There were
already a few figurative decorations . The corners of the gallery are faced
in inlaid thin slabs , showing patterns and figures of flowers and birds in
precisely cut pieces of white marble set against a background of black
marble.
Loggia of the Empress
The Loggia of the Empress is located in the centre of the
upper enclosure, of the Hagia Sophia.
Marble Door
The Marble Door inside the Hagia Sophia is located in the
southern upper enclosure or gallery. It was used by the
participants who entered and left the meeting chamber
through this door.
Wishing column
At the northwest of the building, there is a column with
a hole in the middle covered by bronze plates.

Mosaic
The first mosaics which adorned the church were only
completed during the reign of Justin II.[83] Many of the
non-figurative mosaics in the church come from this
period. Most of the mosaics, however, were completed
after the end of the periods of Byzantine Iconoclasm in
843 AD.
