Introduction
• Human needs are fundamental things that are always increasing. An
increase in demand affects the state of land cover.
• Changes in land cover harm the condition of watersheds that affect
the hydrological functions
• This study aims to calculate the effect of land cover changes on river
discharge in the Cimanuk Hulu watershed
Methodology
• Multiple linear regression are used to determine the effect of changes
in land cover on river discharge
Result and Discusion
The Upper Cimanuk watershed has an area dominated by dryland
agricultural land cover, rice fields, and mixed dryland agriculture.
Significant changes in land cover can be seen in secondary forest land
cover, dry land agriculture, mixed dryland agriculture, and paddy fields.
Land Cover
Changes in
1995 - 2015
Result and Discusion
Y = 4594,389 + 0,273(X6) - 0,039(X7) - 0,022(X9) - 0.045(X10)
Details:
Y = River discharge
X6 = Settlement
X7 = Plantation
X9 = Mixed dryland agriculture
X10 = Rice fields
Based on data processing, it can be seen that the adjusted R2 value is
0.386 or 38.60% which can be explained by settlement land cover,
plantations, mixed dryland farming, and paddy fields.
Result and Discusion
• The f-test and t-test with a significance level of 0.05 indicate that land
covered by settlement, plantation, mixed agricultural plantations, and rice
fields have a significant effect simultaneously on river discharge. Partial
significant influence occurs between residential land cover and rice fields.
This means that an increase in river discharge can be caused by several
factors, such as decreasing evapotranspiration that occurs when native
plants are replaced by short-rooted plants, grasslands, and agriculture
• River discharge increases if the value of settlements increases, while the
amount of the plantations, dryland agriculture decreases. Land cover
affects the water balance and hydrological regime and increases the
frequency and discharge and volume of floods.
• The effect of changes in land cover looks significant to changes in river
discharge caused by declining forest area and increasing agricultural land
caused by growing human needs. Reduced forest cover area and increased
urbanization reduce evapotranspiration, which causes increasing of run off
Cnclusion
• Changes in land cover in watersheds occur in agricultural land, both
primary, secondary and dry land, and rice fields.
• The volume of river discharge in the Upper Cimanuk watershed
experiences fluctuations in river discharge with an average volume
each year, which is around 50 l/s.
• The results of the data processing of land cover changes in the
upstream Cimanuk watershed have been obtained simultaneously
and partially seen from the significance level <0.05.
• Settlement, plantations, mixed dryland agriculture, and rice fields has
a significant simultaneous effect on the volume of river discharge.
