What is On – the – Job Training (OJT)?
A training program for students designed to immerse them in a work
environment relevant to their courses in the attempts to learn productivity in,
knowledge on, and respect for the workplace.
On – the - Job Training program is a course requirement providing an
opportunity to not only apply the theories, principles and ideas learned in
school but also enhances the technical knowledge, skills and attitudes of
students towards work necessary for satisfactory job performance.
On – the – Job Training program also serves as a venue where students earn
experience in career positions relevant to their choice of academic degrees as
well as open up other future career choices towards gainful employment.
General Objectives
• Apply and appreciate the relevance of classroom learning to the
actual work setting;
• Give students with actual workplace experience, exposure to
various management styles, industrial and procedures of various
occupations in relation to their respective fields of learning;
• Provide standards and guidelines for conducting OJTs such as
amount of workload, number of hours, learning objectives, monitoring
scheme and sanctions;
• Enhance the personality, confidence, mediation/negotiation,
public relations/communication and critical thinking skills of the Trainee;
• Clearly establish the roles and responsibilities of involved parties
and provide for protocols regarding different situations that may arise
during the OJT;
• Promote the OJT program through standardized procedures that
are uniform, manageable, and practical so that more institutions will
participate through;
• Continuously improve the OJT/Practicum Program by gaining
inputs from the partner institutions.

The Trainee should abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the institution/company where
he/she is undergoing internship.
The practicum site may be assigned by the practicum supervisor or chosen by the Trainee.
The Trainee should pay the required practicum fee determined by the department concerned to cover
the expenses for this purpose.
The Trainee should always observe discipline and right conduct. He/She should always project the
Purisimian image. He/She shall at all times wear the appropriate dress code. He/She should not engage
in any form of intimate relationship with clients, patients, students, staff and on-site intern supervisor.
He/She is not allowed invite/entertain personal visitors in the practicum site.
He/She should avoid incessant talking and loitering in the practicum premises.
Mobile phones and other electronic gadgets should be set on a silent mode when
he/she is on duty or as prescribed by the company. The Trainee should not engage in
any form of gambling/drinking intoxicating beverages and the like while on duty or
off duty within the practicum site premises.
The student/trainee is expected to submit reports and requirements on time.
The student/trainee should observe punctuality and attendance in reporting to
his/her assigned training area. He/She should accomplish the attendance recording
sheet noted by the training supervisor.
B. Parents/Guardian/Spouse
The parents/guardian/spouse shall co-sign the training contract to manifest approval
or consent to the on-the-job training of their child/spouse.
The parents/guardian/spouse shall also issue a waiver of consent.
C. Practicum Adviser
The Practicum Adviser shall be responsible for all aspects of the student
internship programs including program implementation, monitoring and
evaluation.
The Practicum Adviser is expected to conduct an initial site visit to ensure
that the training facility is safe and conducive for the student/ trainee.
The Practicum Adviser is expected to review, orient, interpret and clarify
to the student/trainees the objectives of the on-the-job training program.
It is the responsibility of the Practicum Adviser to do a regular monitoring of the
student/trainees under him/her to check on their overall performance and discuss
with the On-Site Supervisor to further improve the OJT program. This will ensure
immediate resolution of student/trainee’s concerns, if there is, as well as provide an
opportunity to evaluate the OJT program and follow up on the progress of the
student/trainee.
He/She should also meet with his her students regularly on periodic examination
schedules for student feedback on their respective assignments to validate complaints
concerns of both parties, if any.
He/She should also be available for consultation with the
student/trainee and provide coaching and counselling
assistance, if needed.
He/She is also responsible in evaluating the
student/trainee’s reports, self - evaluation and will give the
final grade taking into consideration the evaluation of the
On-Site Supervisor.
D. Partner OJT Institution
The partner institution/company/office shall be responsible in providing actual on-the-job training
(OJT) to the trainee.
The partner institution/company/office shall be responsible in assigning the trainee to any department
during the duration of the OJT requiring for exposure to actual work. The OJT schedule shall be
determined by the partner institution/company/office in coordination with the trainee and the school’s
assigned practicum supervisor.
Work assignments to the student/trainee should be clearly explained by the partner
institution/company/office to ensure that the duties, role and responsibilities of the trainee are clearly
defined and outlined.
The partner institution/company/office shall assign a focal person to serve as On-Site Supervisor who
will monitor the trainee’s overall work performance including demeanor, competence and
professionalism.
The partner institution/company/office shall conduct an evaluation of the trainee’s overall performance
based on the agreed standards or requirement with the school.
The partner institution/company/office shall issue a Certificate of Completion to the trainee upon
completion of the on-the-job training program.
E. On - Site Supervisor
The On-Site Supervisor is responsible in providing the trainee with opportunities to work
with the specific department or area where they can best apply the theories, principles
and ideas learned in the academe.
He/She will also be responsible in coordinating with the different departments of the
partner institution/company/office where the trainee will report.
He/She is responsible in supervising the student/trainee for the duration of the on-the-
job training program.
He/She will also facilitate the evaluation of the student/trainee’s performance using the
agreed upon standard or requirement of the school.
He/She will regularly meet with the Practicum Adviser to discuss his/her evaluation,
observations and other issues that may arise for the duration of the on-the-job training
program. This will also be an opportunity to discuss the program of the student/trainee.
He/She will prepare the evaluation of the student/trainee, upon completion of the on-
the-job training program and submit such evaluation to the Faculty Practicum
Coordinator.
Procedure for Practicum Application and Company Accreditation
The student selects the company for his practicum.
Attach Official Study Load as proof of enrollment, and other requirements to the
Practicum Adviser, Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), Recommendation Letter,
Acceptance Letter and the Waivers signed by student and the parents. Submit the
same to the CBMA Dean’s Office in duplicate and placed inside 2 separate brown
envelopes which must be properly labeled (Original or Photocopy and indicating
Name, Section, Cellphone or Landline number). These must be submitted before the
start of the Practicum Period. The Practicum Adviser together with the Dean will
approve the application.
Completion of _________________ hour - requirement with satisfactory rating from
the immediate on-site supervisor and faculty adviser. A daily journal will be required
from the students to account their activities and learnings.
Practicum Adviser will check the journal during the company visits.
Practicum Period
Summer Practicum shall be completed during the summer
session, April to May, Monday to Friday, no more than 8
hours per day for a total of 270 hours.
Practicum on the senior year shall be completed during
the first semester, June to October, no more than 8 hours
per day for a total of 360 hours.
Monitoring and Evaluation
In order to ensure effective learning through actual work exposure
if achieved during the on-the-job training, student/trainees will be
evaluated and the OJT program monitored.
Weekly Journal/Report
Trainees will be required to submit a weekly journal or report duly noted
and signed by the On-Site Supervisor, to the Practicum Adviser outlining
his/her observations, learning and reflection relative to the actual work s/
he was exposed to.
The report will help ensure that the school and the partner institution/
company/office are updated on the on-the-job experience of the trainee
and assess whether it is congruent with the agreed upon training plan and
learning objectives.
The weekly journal or report will be assessed and synthesized by the
Practicum Adviser.
Supervisor Evaluation
The student/trainee will be evaluated by the partner
institution/company/office assigned On-Site Supervisor on a bi-weekly basis
on the merit of work performance, competence, work attitude, compliance
to submission of reports, attendance and professionalism.
The result of the said bi-weekly assessment will then be submitted to the
Practicum Adviser who will provide the feedback to the trainee and act on
the matter, if any.
Further, the trainee will also be evaluated at the end of the on-the-job
training program by the On-Site Supervisor and he/she will submit the
evaluation documents to the Practicum Adviser who will consolidate and
synthesize the said documents.
Post-Mortem Evaluation
The student/trainee will submit a post-training narrative report to
the partner institution/company/office and Practicum Adviser and
such will be a basis for the release of the Certificate of Completion.
The report may be used as basis of the partner
institution/company/office as well as the school/HEI in improving
its on-the-job training program and guidelines.
Selection of Company for Practicum
The Practicum Adviser shall be responsible for selecting the
Company/Institution where the students will be trained for their
Practicum; however, students can search for their company for
practicum but subject to the approval of the Practicum
Coordinator, and in accordance with the following guidelines on
the selection of institutions.
Students are not allowed to have their Practicum with their
family-owned enterprise or, if with an independent company, not
be under the direct supervision of parents and relatives up to the
3rd degree of consanguinity and affinity who work for the firm.
Uniform
During the Practicum Period, the Student shall be required to wear
the prescribed Practicum uniform to be determined by the
Practicum Office, or Business Attire if required by the partner-
institution, as the case may be.
Course Requirements
The Students are required to complete the course hour requirements,
equivalent to 270 hours, obtain a satisfactory rating from the
supervisor/manager/HR Head and the Practicum Coordinator, and attend
the school - prescribed practicum activities to pass the course. The rating
instrument shall be developed by the Practicum Adviser and will be the
instrument used by the supervisor in assessing the performance of the
Trainee for purposes of course grading.
The school-prescribed practicum activities which students are required to
attend are as follows:
• Pre - Practicum Orientation, where the final instructions, guidelines
and requirements of the Practicum course will be given by the Practicum
Adviser as well as the Dean.

• Interim Assessment, where the students will provide the Practicum


Adviser with feedback related to their work environment, duties and
responsibilities, and other work-related concerns.
• Post - Practicum Meeting where the Practicum Adviser, the Dean and
the Trainees will provide a summation of the learnings. It will also provide
the students a forum to share insights and experiences acquired during the
Practicum.
The Grades of the Students will be computed based on the following:
• Supervisor’s Rating 50%
• Narrative Report 40%
• Practicum Adviser’s Rating 10%
TOTAL 100%
Others:
The Practicum Adviser will be issuing additional guidelines before and
during the Practicum period to ensure the efficient implementation of
the Program.
Strict compliance of these guidelines is expected.
Responsibilities of the Students
1. Observe the rules of etiquette and code of
discipline of the participating industry-partners at all
time.
a. Treat supervisors with utmost courtesy.
b. Give the customers the appropriate service.
c. Develop one’s personality by being friendly
coupled with modesty and professionalism.
2. Observe the rules and regulations imposed by the hotel/restaurant.
a. Keep regular working hours.
b. Inform formally the coordinators of school and hotel/restaurant on
reason/s for absence/tardiness.

c. Follow policies on break periods, meals, etc.


d. Wear the required official uniform or attire of the hotel/restaurant.
e. Never take out any hotel/restaurant property (food, utensils, etc.).
f. Follow other rules and regulations prescribed by the training partner
g. Avoid smoking within hotel/restaurant premises.
3. Accept responsibilities and perform one’s duties as part of
training and experience.
4. Stay clear of employee problems and intrigues. A student
whose training is terminated by the practicum training institution
for valid reason will have to resume practicum training the
following semester, after disciplinary action shall have been taken.
5. Follow the practicum schedule. No student is allowed to
disrupt the official practicum schedule. Permission for leave of
absence should be obtained in writing from the Practicum Faculty
and the training institution’s practicum coordinator.
6. Meet attendance requirement of the school. A student who
exceeds 20% absence of the official training hours, based on the
official training schedule, will be subject to disciplinary action.
7. Disciplinary action shall be given for violation of the above
rules and regulations and for other forms of misdemeanor. After a
thorough investigation by the representative of school and the
participating hotel/restaurant, the disciplinary action can be in any of
the following forms:
a. written reprimand
b. suspension
c. termination
However, in some cases of misdemeanor (i.e. insubordination)
the participating hotel/restaurant may decide on outright
“termination” depending on the gravity of the misdemeanor.
