SUSTAINABLE REST
AREAS STRATEGIES
 DAYLIGHTING: daylighting
techniques use natural light to illuminate
interior spaces through the strategic
placement of skylights and windows,
allowing sunlight to enter without causing
unwanted 7 heating or cooling.
 MATERIAL CHOICES:
 ENERGY CONSERVATION:
using motion-activated lights, using LED
lights , can also help reduce electricity use
LED lightbulbs use 75–80 percent less
energy and last 25 times longer than
traditional bulbs.
 SOLAR SYSTEM: The electricity
generated from solar panels can be used on-
site to power the rest area.
 WIND: In areas where wind resources are
strong, wind power can provide an additional
renewable energy option for rest areas. wind
turbine could be installed at a rest area.
 PASSIVE SOLAR
TECHNIQUES: Utilizing passive
heating and cooling techniques at rest areas
can aid in reducing their carbon footprints by
lowering the amount of energy required to
run heating and cooling systems
 WATER CONSERVATION : Rest
areas can be designed to collect storm water
from the site collected water can be use for
toilet flushing among other facilities.
