Initial Photoshoot

Ideas/Plans
Locations
Initial location and time ideas:
Field by Happisburgh lighthouse, as the sun is setting.
Florence Carter Park.
Littlewood Wood’s Drayton, around noon.
Behind Norwich Market Place, around noon.
Wensum Park, late afternoon.
Happisburgh lighthouse
I feel Happisburgh lighthouse would make an excellent background for an evening photo shoot
as the sky becomes very dramatic as the sun sets as it is a costal area there are very dramatic
clouds that contrast greatly with the light, almost pastel colours of the sunset.
In addition to this, the lighthouse in the distance would create an excellent sense of distance in
the photograph.
However, it is not easy to get to Happisburgh and the shoot would have to be done within a very
short space of time to ensure I was able to capture the background I am aiming for.
Florence Carter Park
Due to the plant life towards the back of Florence carter park I feel it would be An interesting
setting for a photo shoot, particularly beneath the willow tree as this would create a very
textured background, and along as the person in the photograph is not dressed in blue or green
toned clothes, they would instantly stand out.
Since there is a children's play area in the park I would have to ensure that the photo shoot
were done at a time where the park is empty so that I didn't make anyone visiting the park
uncomfortable. This means that the photo shoot would have to be done in the early evening,
which again means I would have limited time in which to conduct the photo shoot before it got
too dark to see the photographs.
Littlewoods Wood’s
The woods would be a good location for a photo shoot as it is quiet, this means I wont risk
capturing photographs with many people in the background.
 There are many clearings with plenty of light meaning if I did a photo shoot at noon there
would be plenty of time to finish it and since it is local I can return if necessary.
 It would also create an immense sense of distance in the photograph due to all of the plant life
in the background, I would have to make sure the model really pops out of the photograph as
the background will be quite dark in colour.
Behind Norwich Market Place
An advantage of using this location is that it is a very open area, with plenty of light, however in
order to get it quiet enough to do a photo shoot I would most likely need to wait until evening,
giving yet again limited time in which to complete the photo shoot but again as this area is local,
if necessary I could return to continue the shoot.
This area would be interesting as it could be used to create several different effects, if the model
were positioned in front of the flower beds and planters, it could potentially create a rather
elegant atmosphere within the photograph, alternatively I could have the model positioned in
front of the market stalls to create a much, busier, complex, urban feel to the photographs.
Wensum Park
This would make a very interesting location to conduct a photo shoot due to the incredible
nature and wildlife in the area, there is plant life, rivers as well as ducks and geese.
The river could be used in the background of a photo shoot, which would also allow there to be
waterfowl in the background, which would create great contrast to conventional photo shoots
for magazine covers.
The park is usually relatively quiet therefore there shouldn’t be too many people around, and as
it is local I can easily return to take more photographs.
Final locations
I feel that accessibility is essential for selecting a location for a photo shoot, so I decided to rule
out Happisburgh lighthouse as I cannot easily get there as and when I need to. I have also
decided to rule out Florence Carter Park as it only allows for a very limited photo shoot, there is
only one area I would consider, and I’d prefer to have opportunity for variation in my photo
shoots.
My final locations are:
Littlewood Woods
Behind Norwich Market Place
Wensum Park
Littlewood Wood’s Risk Assessment
Becomes very slippery in bad weather conditions.
Risk of branches falling down in windy weather.
To avoid these risks I will need to organise photo shoots to ensure they are in good weather
conditions.
Marketplace Risk Assessment
People often come over to ask for money when it is busy.
If you were to lean too far over the railings you could fall over them.
To prevent this I can ensure we do photo shoots at quiet times of day and that I don't position
anyone too close to the railings.
Wensum Park Risk Assessment
We could fall into the river if we got too close to the edge.
Branches from trees could be at risk of falling if it is windy weather.
The ground gets a little bit slippery in bad weather conditions.
To avoid this I will schedule the photo shoot for good weather conditions and ensure I don't do
the photo shoot too close to the waters edge.
Props
I think in some of my photo shoots I will include guitars as props as this is a music magazine, I
can use a variation of acoustic and electric guitars, to add to the variation of the photoshoot.
I would also like to have a selection of photographs that include no props, but look quite natural
and un-staged.
