I like the very old fashioned look to this font, it’s very eye-catching and
vastly contrasts the mastheads used in other magazines.
However it is not as bold as I would like it to be, the lowercase
lettering looks quite messy and this font does not allow for upper case
lettering, but I do really like how the first letter ‘M’ looks.

I personally feel that this font looks rather undefined in comparison to
other typography’s, the lines are not fluid and the letters are harder to
decipher, particularly the ‘s’ which more closely resembles an ‘r’. This
font is not bold and is only eye-catching due to it’s messy nature. I feel
it would look very unprofessional if used as typography on a magazine
front cover.

This font is very bold and would stand out very easily, it would be very
eye-catching due to its simple design and bold lettering. I like the
sharp spikey ends on the letters, however I feel it is still a little bit too
simple. I do however like how neat and clean the font looks, it is unlike
the others in this respect.
Algerian
This font is very bold and would stand out very easily, I like the fact it is
a serif font, making it appear very formal and I also like the double line
effect. I do not however like the fact that it is only available as an
upper case font, as I would like to have the first letter of the masthead
in uppercase and the rest in lowercase font.

Castellar
This typography looks very official, formal and sophisticated as a result
of the serif font and I like the double line effect, the black lines are
much thinner on this one than the ‘Algerian’ font which makes it stand
out a lot less than I would like it to. I do not however like the fact that
it is only available as an upper case font, as I would like to have the
first letter of the masthead in uppercase and the rest in lowercase
font.

This font is interesting because in spite of it being quite complex it is
still easy to read and understand. I like the fact it is available in both
upper and lower case. I also like how unique it is compared to the
typographies used on other magazines, this would additionally help to
make the magazine stand out.

oOffbeat oAll of these ideas are words commonly used
within music. I thought Medley and Fusion
oGroove worked well as it shows how not only a mixture of
artists are included in the magazine from a range
oRemix of genres, but it also shows how a range of
different media products are covered such as
oMedley music and film.
oInterlude oI also liked amplify because to amplify is to make
something louder, making it bolder and stand out
oFusion more which I personally feel is one of the aims of a
magazine.

After further research I have been able to narrow down my possible name choices after
discovering that some of these names are existing products. Such as:
o Amplify
o Fusion
o Reverb
o Offbeat
o Remix
Final Name Idea
Of the remaining names I decided to ask 15 people from within the target demographic (Of 16-25 year olds) which title they felt was the
most effective.

I decided to ask one of the people who selected ‘Interlude’ what influenced their decision:
• ‘Interlude seems like an appropriate name for an entertainment magazine as one pauses the rest of their activities for the day in order to read the
magazine, whereas the others seem to carry a less direct link to the nature of the magazine. Turntable seems rather outdated as a mass audience of
16-25 year olds haven't experienced listening to music on a turntable in the same way in which an older demographic have and groove seems to be
more focused towards music, but your magazine intends to have film related articles as well, and finally ‘Elevate Entertainment’ seems rather wordy,
rather than a short catchy title. Overall ‘Interlude’ seems to match the overall theme of the magazine best.’

I have decided to use the font ‘old English MT’ for my masthead as it really stands out from the fonts used on other entertainment magazines which
tend to be rather simple bold fonts. In comparison to many of the other fonts I looked at this was one that was far easier to read, all the letters are
legible and clear, whilst still remaining bold and unique. The colour of the masthead can be adapted to suit the overall colour scheme of the magazine.
