Introduction

▪ Literature in English involves fiction and non-fiction written works in


English.
▪ It is related to the reading and analysis of written materials of
different kinds of creations.
▪ Several idioms and phrases are used which makes a reader confuse
as well as compel to brainstorm.
▪ Likewise, imagery and symbolism are heart of literature. A teaspoon
of imagery and symbolism is necessary to grab attraction towards
any of the creations in English literature.
Imagery

▪ The language that brings one or all of the five senses is imagery.
▪ Writers use it to express the feeling felt by their sense organs. They
often try to transfer the feeling which they felt via. Words.
▪ Some examples will help you understand more about Imagery:
1. Her lips tasted as good as sugar.
2. The kitten’s fur is milky.
Here, the sense of taste is represented in the first example and the
sense of vision is represented in the second one.
Symbolism

▪ Symbolism the art practiced in literature using symbols especially for


expressing something which has a great meaning in itself.
▪ Writer writes symbol if he/she doesn’t want to express their ideas
directly but in a manner that creates interest to readers to read it
further.
▪ Some examples will help you understand more about Symbolism:
1. Black day in Ram’s house.
2. Blue
Here, black day represents a day when one of the family member dies
in Ram’s house and blue represents royal.

Why is it in use in literature?

▪ It is used for sharing exact feeling of the writer to readers. This


doesn’t only creates interest but also create confusions in a lot of
readers.
