Reading Method (RM)

There are 7 kinds the characteristics of reading method


 The priority reading ability, current and historical knowledge
of the country where the target language is spoken
 Teaching reading only requires grammar
 A great amount of reading is done, both of intensive or
extensive class.
 The vocabulary is extended as fast as possible
 The vocabulary is strictly controlled
 Translation reappears as a respectable classroom procedure
D. Audiolingual Method (ALM)
There are 16 kinds of the characteristics of Audiolingual Method
Presentation in form dialog of new material
There is dependence on imitation
Taught one at a time
Taught using repetitive drills
There is little or no grammatical explanation
Skills are sequenced
Vocabulary is strictly limited and learned context
Teaching points are determined by contrastive analysis
The teaching and learning process using with various media
There is extended pre-reading period at the beginning of the course
Attached to pronunciation
The cultural background of the target language is stressed
Some use of the mother tongue by teachers is permitted
Responses are immediately reinforced
There is a great effort to prevent students errors.
There is a tendency to manipulate language and disregard content
Generally, various drill can be divided into two
types :
• Repetition drill
• Substitution drills
