CENTAURI
ALPHA CENTAURI

• Latinized from a Centauri abbreviated Alpha Cen

or a Cen.
• Is the closest star system and closest planetary
system to the solar system at 4.37 light years
from the sun.
ALPHA CENTAURI CONSISTING
OF THREE STARS:
1. ALPHA CENTAURI A (RIGIL
KENTAURUS)
• It is somewhat larger and a bit brighter than
the sun and its stellar classification type is G2.
• That means it’s a lot like the sun (which is also
a g-type star).
2. ALPHA CENTAURI B (TOLIMAN)
• Is smaller star than the sun and
much less bright.
• It’s an orange colored k-type star.

3.PROXIMA CENTAURI
• Lies about 2.2 trillion kilometers
away from the main pair of stars
in the system.
• It’s an M-Type red dwarf star and
much dimmer than the sun.
• Alpha Centauri is a special star not only
because it is the closest stellar system to
the sun but also because it is one of the
relatively few places in the milky way
galaxy that may offer terrestrial life
conditions. If humanity looks for intelligent
life elsewhere then Alpha Centauri is an
excellent candidate.
 A star must pass five tests before we can it a
promising place for terrestrial life as we
know it .
FIVE TESTS:
1. The first Criterion, is to ensure on stars
maturity and stability.
2. The second test, is much tougher.
3. The third , A system must demonstrate
stable conditions.
4. The fourth condition concerns the stars
ages.
5. And the fifth and final test.
