ERGONOMIC
HAZARDS
 These are physical conditions that may pose risk of
injury to the musculoskeletal system.
 Ergonomic hazard injuries are caused by: awkward
or extreme postures, whole body or hand/arm
vibration, poorly designed tools, equipment or
workstations and poor lighting.
The main areas of concern for workplace and
employees will often relate to:

  VISUAL
CONFINED OFFICE
SPACES
CONFINED
SPACES
 As an enclosed or partially enclosed space
that is or likely to be a risk to health and
safety.
RISKS:
1. An atmosphere that does not have safe
oxygen levels
2. Contaminants including airborne gases,
vapors and dust that may cause injury from
fire or explosion
3. Harmful Concentrations of any airborne
contaminants
4. Potential engulfment Virtual Office
VIRTUAL OFFICE
 Provides managers and office
workers with a tool to help
identify work related health and
safety risks in the office
environment.
 One way to identify the hazards
and risk at work is to look at the
rooms and the tasks and activities
associated with that area.
RISKS:

1. Lower Back Injuries

2. Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
3. Tendinitis
4. Fatigue
5. Epicondylitis aka Tennis Elbow
LOWER BACK INJURIES
 According to the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill School of Medicine, more than 80
percent of Americans will experience low back
pain at some point in their lives.
 Lumbar (lower back) muscle strains
and sprains are the most common causes of low
back pain.
 The back is prone to this strain because of its
weight-bearing function and involvement in
moving, twisting and bending.
CARPEL TUNNEL
SYNDROME
 It is pressure on a nerve in your wrist.
 It causes tingling, numbness and pain in your
hands.
 It is because of unaligned keyboards and other
office tools.
TENDINITIS
 It can be caused by sudden injury, the
condition is much more likely to stem from
the repetition of a particular movement over
time.
 Most people develops tendinitis because their
jobs or hobbies involve repetitive motions
which put stress on tendons.
FATIGUE
 Fatigue is a term used to describe an overall
feeling of tiredness or lack of energy.
 It isn’t the same as simply feeling drowsy or
sleepy. When you’re fatigued, you have no
motivation and no energy.
 There is a common mistake made by employees
these days to toss every significant decline in
energy and motivation – particularly if it seems
work-related – into a big bucket labeled
"burnout," an overgeneralization that may lead
down a seriously flawed restorative path.
EPICONDYLITIS aka.
TENNIS ELBOW
O Tennis elbow (or lateral epicondylitis) is described
as pain or soreness in the outer part of the elbow.
O It is one of the most commonly diagnosed
musculoskeletal disorders, typically affecting the
dominant arm.
O According to WebMD, tennis elbow affects up to
3% of the population, particularly adults between
30 and 50 years of age, and less than 5% of cases
are linked to tennis.
