CONTENTS OF

THE RESEARCH
PROPOSAL
1. FRONT MATTER
• Title Page. It is a brief descriptive label that sub-
serves the theme of the study as a whole. The first
page of your research paper.
• Acknowledgement. Enable you to thank all those
who have helped you in carrying out the research.
A page of acknowledgements is usually included at
the beginning of a Final Year Project, immediately
after the Table of Contents.
• Table of Contents. This portion provides a brief
view for the reader of the major topics covered by the
research. It is an organized listing of the chapters and
major sections of your document.
2. BODY OR TEXT
- The main content of the
research proposal
Chapter 1. The Problem
and It’s Background
1. Introduction - it
discusses the general
context under which a
research problem is to be
studied.
2. Background of the
study
- This portion states the setting of
the identified research problem.
It also gives a narrative
exposition and background of
the problem area in general and
the rationale of the study.
3. Theoretical/
Conceptual Framework
- used to illustrate what you expect
to find through your research,
including how the variables you
are considering might relate to
each other.
4. Statement of the
Problem
- This is used in research work as
a claim that outlines the
problem addressed by a study.

Problems should be
monotonously presented using a
single expression of the
questions like the following:
1. What objectives may be
formulated…?
2. What standards should be
considered in order to…?
3. What is the status of the…?
5. Hypothesis
- proposed explanation made on
the basis of limited evidence as
a starting point for further
investigation.
- isa tentative statement about
the relationship between two or
more variables. It is a specific,
testable prediction about what
you expect to happen in a study.
2 kinds of Hypothesis:
• Null Hypothesis
• Alternative Hypothesis
An example of a specific
question:
Is there a significant difference in
the assessment of the respondent
groups regarding the performance
of the banks’ vital functions as
commercial banking institutions?
Null Hypothesis:
“There is no significant difference in the
assessment of the respondent groups
regarding the performance of the banks’ vital
functions as commercial banking
institutions.”
Alternative Hypothesis:
“ There is significant difference in the
assessment of the respondent groups
regarding the performance of the banks’ vital
functions as commercial banking
institutions.”
A null hypothesis is a hypothesis
that says there is no statistical
significance between the two
variables in the hypothesis. It is the
hypothesis that the researcher is
trying to disprove, while
an alternative hypothesis simply
is the inverse, or opposite, of the
null hypothesis.
Assumption
- It is the statement related to the
problem which is presumed to
be true on the basis of
observation or experience.
• Significance of the
study
- Inthis section, the researchers
expresses the value or importance
of the study.
- It is where the significant
contributions of results of the study
are enumerated.
SCOPE AND
LIMITATION OF THE
STUDY
- Identifies the boundaries or
coverage of the study in terms of
subjects, facilities, objectives, area,
time, duration, and the issues to
which the research is focused.
• Definition of terms
- this section of the research
includes important or key
terms that should be
substantially and clearly
defined according to how they
are used in the study in order
to facilitate understanding of
the problems and variables
used.
2 forms
1.Operational Definition
2.Conceptual Definition
The following are banking
terms that will be used in this
study:
• Banks
• Banking functions
Chapter 2.
REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE AND
STUDIES
RELATED LITERATURE

- An important component in the

preparation of the proposal and
as an aspect or part of the
research report.
TYPES OF
LITERATURE:
• Foreign literature – printed
abroad or written by foreign
authors/writers
• Local literature – written by
local authors and reporters and
printed in the country
RELATED STUDIES

- FOREIGN STUDIES
- LOCAL STUDIES
SYNTHESIS
- Presents the relationship of the
present study to the
investigations being reviewed.
- also summarizes and
emphasizes its relevance to
the current study.
1. The related studies included in
this study have significant
relationship with the present
study in the sense that…….?
2. The study of…(cite the complete
title of the study)…is especially
relevant to this study because the
venue is similar to……..(state the
variables used in the present
study).
