Maxillofacial and skull-base fractures are common in
the trauma patient, and clinical examination is of
limited value due to overlying oedema, haemorrhage
andsoft tissue injury.
Radiological assessment of the maxillofacial
and skull-base trauma has evolved over the
past couple of decades, with high-resolution CT now
being the mainstream of imaging.
Accurate classification of the fractures and
identification of related complications permit prompt
surgical management and prevent cosmetic
deformity and functional disability.
