Basic Introduction to Civil Designer
• File Open Knowledge Base – Examples –Tutor-Tutor Cadastral- File Save as (any
name) in Tutor Folder.
• Creating a Project: Open Drawing from previous step – Select Survey Icon- File
Project Settings- Check Terrain- Navigate to Examples Tutor folder – Create a
blank DTM file (Name of Choice)- Click Open, if file doesn’t exist select yes, and
then make sure settings are like this example: Then Ok and Save for next step
• Importing ASCII Data:
Open drawing – Select Survey Icon- File Import ASCII XYZ – Single file –
Navigate to the Examples folder – Change file type to Data File – Select
Tutor Dat then open – after all the below steps save drawing for next
step
Generating Digital Terrain Model by Triangulation (connecting two
points):
• Open Drawing – Select Terrain Mode- Model – Triangulate – In
memory (quicker method) – Select Surface 1 – 80 Length – Ok.
• Settings to display triangulation lines or lines icon
• View control centre, scroll DTM surface tab – surface 1- select
different colour for the lines.
• Select names on or off, or Heights
• R to refresh back to paper space
• Save drawing and the DTM for next step.
Editing Break lines:
• Open Drawing- Terrain Mode - Switch on Contours- Switch off Lines –
Select Model Break Lines, You can either Add or Remove Break lines –
Zoom in the drawing and delete break lines, Press S on Keyboard and
Contours are updated, Press W to focus on Particular Point on the
drawing, R to refresh to paper size.
• Intelligent break lines help in the defining the terrain model correctly
either than doing manually using The Add & Delete option stated
above.
• Open Drawing- Zoom Site (ZA)- Terrain Line- Intelli line works with
what appears on the screen – Model – Intelli Lines:
• After you selected Ok just the ER lines will appear on Drawing and
break lines deleted ( Make sure you save after you have done work on
your drawing)
• Zoom in Drawing, and You will notice feature lines are not accurate
and out of position- Select Model- Feature Lines- Delete or use Icon
on the left side of the screen.
• Zoom in and some feature lines are missing so to add- Model- Feature
lines – Add all the lines that are missing and Quit once all lines are
added.
• To connect the rest of the Model you can triangulate – In memory,
(This is to make sure the Digital Terrain Model is accurate for rest of
your design)
• File and Save the DTM for next Tutorial.
• Smooth Contours- To produce precise contours that are pleasing.
• Open Drawing If not open already – Terrain Mode – Switch on
Contours Setting Contours or use icon- Switch off lines to view
contours better – Select Terrain- Generate Contours:

• Press S on screen to refresh contours will disappear – Switch on


Contours – Select settings- Display – Activate Contours
• Smooth labelled contours will appear- Save Drawing for next design
step.
• Creating A site Plan: Shows how to produce a Site plan that include
Title block and Data from design.
• Open Drawing if not open already – Select Plot from any application
– Generate:
• Select Paper Size 0 – Select Create Layouts… - Then next

• Click Add and drawing Displayed, Move rectangle to area you would
like to plot Select Quit once you have selected you plot area
You can Move rectangle until it suites the Position you need, Click next after you are satisfied, Use the setting appearing on
the screen:
