Absorption of drugs
Absorption is movement of the drug from its site of administration
into the circulation.
Not only the fraction of the administered dose that gets absorbed,
but also the rate of absorption is important.
Except when given i.v., the drug has to cross biological membranes;
Oral route
Particle size
Lipid solubility
Degree of Ionization
Disintegration and Dissolution rate
Presence of food & other drugs
Bioavailability
Bioavailability refers to the rate and extent of absorption of a drug
from a dosage form as determined by its concentration-time curve
in blood.
