• HIV- Human Immunodeficiency Virus

• It is a virus spread through certain body

fluids that attacks the body's immune
system.
• AIDS- Acquired Immunodeficiency
Syndrome

• A syndrome caused by infection with the

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV),
with ensuing compromise of the body's
immune system.
There's no vaccine to prevent HIV infection and no cure for AIDS.
But you can protect yourself and others from infection.
• It is the most effective method of not acquiring
HIV/AIDS.

• Refraining from unprotected sex: oral, anal, or

vaginal.

• Refraining from intravenous drug use.

It's important to tell all
your current and past
sexual partners that
you're HIV-positive.
They'll need to be
tested.
• Use condoms every time you
have sex.

• Always use latex or

polyurethane condom (not a
natural skin condom).

• Always use a latex barrier

during oral sex.
• If you use a needle to inject drugs, make sure
it's sterile and don't share it.

• Take advantage of needle-exchange programs

in your community and consider seeking help for
your drug use.
If you're HIV-positive, you
may pass the infection to
your baby. But if you
receive treatment during
pregnancy, you can cut
your baby's risk
significantly.
BEFORE YOU START.
BEFORE YOU SHOOT.
BEFORE YOU SHARE.
